Self-Maintenance Tips for Your John Deere Mower
As the off-season moves into Spring, it's important to get ahead on equipment maintenance. If you take proper care of your John Deere mower, you can expect it to serve you for years. Whether you're riding a zero-turn ZTrakTM or a Lawn Tractor, we've got some tips for keeping your mower running in top shape.
General Maintenance
First and foremost, we want to highlight some major maintenance tips that will apply to any mower you're using. For specific maintenance points on your machine, please read your owner's manual.
- Engine: We recommend changing your engine oil and oil filter at least once every season, or after 50 hours of use.
- Oil: The majority of John Deere mowers with gas engines will take SAE 10W-30 engine oil. Ensure that you're using the correct engine oil by double-checking your owner's manual.
- Tires: If your mower is new, we recommend that you inspect and tighten your tire bolts after about 8 hours of use. Additionally, you should routinely check your tire pressure before operating your machine.
- Air Filter: A dirty air filter may cause your mower to run roughly or even have trouble starting. Check your air filter routinely, and change it once a season or more frequently if you mow in dusty conditions.
