SEEDBED PREPARATION
Soil conditioning
For some producers, the last step in seedbed preparation is using a rolling basket to size clods and shape and firm the berm.
Each dual paddle basket uses nine 102-mm x 127-mm (4-in. x 5-in.) basket paddles per side.
The paddle baskets are slightly concave to ensure proper strip conditioning and avoid flattening of the berm.
Producers have seen the benefits of a rolling basket:
- Better sealing of anhydrous
- More consistent seedbeds in tough conditions
Residue flow
In high-residue conditions, the row cleaners move a lot of residue between the rows. This residue can be up to 406 mm (16 in.) tall in fluffy conditions and can hang up and plug on traditional basket mounting arms.
The baskets on the 2510S are mounted with a single arm down the middle of the baskets to provide more clearance between the baskets for best-in-class residue flow.
Adjustments
The dual paddle baskets have three different adjustments to fine-tune performance.
Adjustable spring down pressure allows changes to soil firming while the entire basket can be moved closer to or farther away from the closing disks.
In wetter conditions, moving the basket farther from the soil coming off of the closing disks reduces soil buildup on the baskets.
Any soil buildup that does occur can be removed straight out of the basket rather than having to push the soil back into the cage.
The baskets can also be pinned up and out of working position if so desired.
