Every owner of a John Deere riding lawn and garden product is a potential customer for a high-quality, affordable utility cart. Utility carts can be used to haul a variety of materials, including firewood, lawn debris, dirt, sand, mulch, garden tools, plants, and bushes.

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

Welded box Welded box

Welded box construction provides maximum reliability:

  • Requires less setup time than the bolted construction.
  • Box sides and bottom are one piece and have rounded corners and no hardware for easy cleaning.
Wheels and tires

Wheels are mounted on a solid, one-piece axle for durability.

Iron/Oilite® wheel bearings with grease fittings provide lubrication for long life.

Pneumatic tires offer:

  • Good flotation
  • Minimal rolling resistance
  • Shock absorption

Turf-tread tires are used on the 13 Utility Cart.

Deluxe tailgate Deluxe tailgate

Deluxe tailgate is hinged for easy emptying and can also be quickly removed without the use of tools.

Easy hookup and tilt-dump latch
Spring-pin tractor hitch Spring-pin tractor hitch
Tilt-dump latch Tilt-dump latch

A large-diameter hitch pin provides plenty of strength:

  • Fast, easy attachment to the tractor hitch
  • Spring pin to ensure the pin stays in place

The easy-to-use latch allows tilting the bed for easier unloading:

  • Steep dump angle makes emptying easier.

  • Firewood
  • Lawn debris
  • Sand
  • Dirt
  • Mulch
  • Garden tools
  • Plants and bushes

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

Key features of the 17P Utility Cart:

  • Cart has premium molded polypropylene box construction.
  • Polypropylene body will not rust or dent, staying new looking longer.
  • 0.75- x 2-in. (19- x 51-mm) stake pockets are molded in to make addition of side extensions easy.
  • Two vertical 0.75-in. (19-mm) molded channels on each side allow for easy use of dividers to separate the box into two or three compartments.
  • Ribs in box bottom add strength and prevent a shovel from hitting bolts when emptying the cart.
  • Sloped tailgate design makes emptying the box easier; no tailgate to loosen or remove.
  • Styling is compatible with other John Deere equipment.
  • 16x6.5 pneumatic tires with turf tread give good flotation, shock absorption, and minimal rolling resistance.
  • Wheels are mounted on a solid one-piece axle.
  • Wheels turn on iron/Oilite® bushings with grease fitting for long life.
  • Spring-loaded dump latch is easy to use.

A convenient foot pedal dump release kit, LP48017, which now comes standard on all 10P and 17P carts is available to retrofit existing poly carts. This kit allows the operator to use both hands to lift the cart bed for more natural and efficient unloading.

Front Blade

46-in. (117-cm) Front Blade 46-in. (117-cm) Front Blade

The front blade is excellent for pushing light snow or other loose material.

The blade is constructed for good performance and long life:

  • Blade surface is curved to roll rather than push material, which requires less power and increased blade capacity.
  • Bolt-on, replaceable cutting edge takes most of the wear to greatly extend the useful life of the blade.

For operator convenience, the blade comes with standard equipment for controlling it from the tractor seat:

  • Blade can be angled left, right, or used in the straight-ahead position.
Full working range
Full working range Full working range

The 46-in. (117-cm) blade can be operated up to 6.5 in. (16.5 cm) above ground level.

Floating action is designed into the lift linkage, so the blade is free to follow the contour of the ground.

The lift-linkage design makes raising the blade easy.

Controlled from tractor seat

  • Has corrosion preventers
  • For lawn and garden equipment and other gasoline-powered vehicles
  • Ensures quick starts in all two- and four-cycle engines
  • Use in gasoline, gasoline-oil mixture, and ethanol blends
  • Use to treat gas cans at each fill-up or use at every fill-up of vehicle
  • Keeps fuel fresh for 12 months
  • Contains a fuel injector and carburetor cleaner
  • 1 oz (29.6 mL) treats 2 gal. (7.6 L)

Always use fuel stabilizer in gasoline.

Fuel sitting in gas tanks or gas containers for more than 30 days begins to degrade. Also, blended fuels and water in gasoline can form acids that corrode fuel-system components. Protect the investment - use John Deere fuel stabilizer with corrosion preventers and prevent hard starting, surging, lack of power, poor idle, flooding, and will not run or stay running conditions caused by poor-quality fuel. Ask a local John Deere dealer or visit John Deere Parts.

Helpful tips:

  • Add fuel stabilizer every time fuel is purchased.
  • Deere gasoline-powered equipment is recommended to run on a minimum of 87 octane gasoline.
  • John Deere Fuel-Protect for gasoline is safe to use in all types of gasoline, including gasoline/oil mixtures and blended fuels containing up to 10 percent ethanol.
  • Use plastic fuel containers to store fuel; ask a local John Deere dealer.
  • For best results, use a spill-proof gas can that automatically seals the gas can vent.
  • Store fuel in a cool, dry, dark place in a sealed fuel can.
  • Fill tank to the top every time the machine is put away.
    • Make sure tank is drained if stored for the winter or treated if left for prolonged periods of time.

Please refer to the operator’s manual for additional recommendations and warranty information.

Fuel related issues are not considered a warrantable condition as there is no defect in the materials or workmanship of the machine.

For more information on fuel, visit John Deere Groundscare.

Tire Chains

TerraGrip Traction Belt TerraGrip Traction Belt

Protect your driving surface. TerraGrip Traction Belts offer enhanced traction on snow, mud, dirt, wet asphalt, and wet concrete surfaces. They will not scratch or chip concrete, asphalt, or aggregate drives or walkways. The proven reliability of the traditional steel chain attachment system is used and combined with the performance and durability of reinforced rubber slats. The rubber slats wrap around the tire so only rubber touches the driving surface. The result is aggressive traction without the risk of surface damage, that can happen with traditional chains.

Features:
  • Rubber slats surround the tire and will not damage driveways or sidewalks.
  • No steel touches the driving surface.
  • No-tools installation utilizes a traditional steel chain attachment system.
  • Traction is improved on all surfaces, especially loose material (snow, dirt, mud, sand, etc.).
  • TerraGrip Traction Belts are approved for John Deere 100, 200, X300, X500 M-T, and X700 Series Tractors.

Additional information for 4-wheel-steer tractor models:

  • X700 Series – requires wheel spacer sold separately
  • X500 Series – requires wheel stop adjustment
  • X300 Series – no additional requirements

Awesome products

1/5

I bought a John Deere bagger for my zero turn. It’s a horrible design! Dirt and debris comes out of the mesh bags and comes out all underneath your legs and feet from under the mower. I called John Deere and they’re like well. You bought it from an independent dealer and you’ll have to deal with them. I said so you don’t stand behind your bad design? that was pretty much the end of it

John deere is garbage

1/5

I'm giving this company a 1 star I wish there were a zero then they would be worthy. I brought a john deer D100 to cut My front and rear year which was very small. My lawn guy warned me not to gett a deer. He said they are not what they use to be. Not listening I brought the D100 and its been one of the worst decisions I've ever made. It's been in the repair shop 3 times and Sat there about 3 months at a time. But the worst part is the units only have about 50 hours of use. Wow. Every place I call said that impossible, but it the truth. I've call John deere and ask the to replace the unit because it was just one that happened to be a lemon. They won't accept that because they think they are above normal. Now I'm at the point where I'm going to give it away because I'm not selling it and putting anyone in this situation. I know I'm just one person but stay away from john deere.

Never buy S100

1/5

I purchased S100 in summer of 2021. During that summer, my trouble started with this mower with belt slipping off and uneven cut. Since, it was under warranty the local dealer sent a guy to fix. When he couldn't then they picked up and fixed. So, I was without lawn mower for more than a month. Recently (my 3rd summer of using) mower quit in the middle with burning rubber smell and doesn't start. Dealer said we can come, pick for a fee and give estimate. They will tell how much it cost. Also telling me it will take about a month before they can get it. This means that I will be again without a mower for rest of this summer (2024). This is a bad mower with bad service.

John Deere S100 42-inch Replaced Snapper 28-inch

5/5

I bought this one a month ago to replace my 15yo Snapper 28-inch rear engine riding mower. In 2009, the Snapper was only riding mower to fit thru 40-inch gate in 2004 white vinyl fence. Fence was extended in 2019 and 54-inch gate installed. Finally able to buy a John Deere S100 42-inch and have truly enjoyed it. Looking forward to January to use the bagger when the oak leaves begin to drop.

competitive mower

4/5

I wanted a cost competitive mower and this filled the bill perfectly. I wish I had upgraded my mower a little because I want more power and may be a little short there for some apps. Don't like the gas gauge at all--it said full when the mower was almost dry, and that example of cost cutting economy makes me wonder about long term satisfaction. It is a good product, but it is not my 214 (c.1979) that I had for more than 20 years.

Great features! especially the Gas Level Gage!!!

5/5

I know this is late getting back to you but on May 27th, the day before my John Deere S100 was to be delivered, I broke my leg. While still getting over the break; I can still mow my lawn; but! I have to swing my right leg over to the break side of the tractor to start the engine, due to my left leg & foot is still not strong enough to push the break all the way down to start the engine. The John Deere Service man graciously came to my house to help me out with tips on getting my new S100 started. Other than my little set-back; I am very Happy with my new John Deere S100; and very happy with the Farmington Valley CT. AGI John Deere Sales & Servicemen; Very Nice People!

Regret buying

1/5

Regret buying. Paid for a mulching kit for this mower, but it does not mulch the grass and using the mower on the highest setting, 4 inches, causes many cut off grass blades to come out from the blade area. It misses lots of grass and tends to smash the grass down instead of a hydrostatic approach of sucking it up and cutting it. It doesn't leave a nice, crisp and clean cutting path.

I don't like the forward reverse pedal on the floor.I would rather have a lever on the right side, and the craziest thing is the reverse yellow button in the front that I always have to push to go backwards or disengage the drive belt or it will backfire. This is a pain in the butt

x350 Mower problems

1/5

I bought an x350 mower a few years ago. I have a problem every 5 hours. I manage a 125-tree apple orchard, so I added the 25-gallon sprayer. The electric pump lasted 3 hours, then failed. It was warranteed, and replaced. The spray wand lasted 5 hours, then had to be replaced. Mower deck is near impossible to remove, so blade removal for sharpening requires jacks and climbing underneath. Now, seat safety switch to engage mower blades is faulty, so I haven't mowed all season. Single-handedly, the worst power equipment I have ever bought.

I bought this item in April 2022 and the transmission already failed . The warranty was only for two years so I had pay the cost for repair…my lawn is not big so I haven’t used it more than 15 or 20 times….. my previous lawn mower was a “yard machine “ brand that lasted for 17 years without any transmission issues….I thought this well known brand would at least hold up longer than 2 years…very disappointed in the product I feel deceived by all the hype…very poor product…I will never buy another product from John Deere

Best Mower

5/5

I initially bought my s100 from Lowes. However, they delivered it with a dead battery and about 2 minutes of gas. They also delivered it on a flatbed truck and used a forklift to lift it off the truck by putting the forks under the mower deck which knocked off and cut the mower belt. I contacted Deeres Customer Service to get the belt replaced and they directed me to their local dealer, United Ag & Turf in Lufkin, Texas. They couldn't come and replace the belt under warranty and recommended I return it to Lowes. They offered to sell me a new s100 at the same price I paid Lowes and they would deliver it properly. I agreed. They didn't have any in stock so it took a few extra days to get it delivered, They delivered it on the expected delivery date and on a trailer which they could drive the unit off and it had a full tank of gas. You simply can't ask for a better mower and I cut my half acre of grass in under an hour. There is only one thing that drives me nuts and that is this button you have to push every time you want to back up. Don't push it, motor stalls. This is a total over kill on safety. If you want to buy one don't buy it from Lowes, use a local dealer.

3/5

This is the second S100 lawn tractor I’ve purchased in 15 years. Loved my first one and didn’t hesitate to purchase another one. However, since purchasing it on April 8, 2024 it’s broken down twice. There is a problem with the drive belt. First time it just stopped moving and the team at Tellus John Deere fixed it. The second mowing it was making noises like something was not attached and then it stopped moving. Obviously there is a problem with the drive belt mechanism. Hopeful, they can fix this again and correctly. I was not expecting problems twice within 11 mowing hours. :(

Great mower for the price

4/5

I have owned this model for about 2 years. I cut my grass constantly with the machine. I have had 0 issues with my mower up to this point. I have read of the belt issues, yet I have had none. I believe the place purchased and how the folks selling the mowers have put them together could be part of the issue. I know John Deere assembles them about 90 percent, but if the guidelines set out aren't followed, problems will commence. This is a great mower for the price. It is by no means perfect, but it is a quality product with a huge parts base.

Good update to the D105, with a couple caveats

4/5

Previously owned a D105 mower. S100 is very similar, with a couple of items not quite as good as the D105. On the plus side, you no longer have to 'shift' to go into reverse or forward, there are pedal for each direction. However, there is a button on the dash that must be pressed when the blades are engaged before pressing the reverse pedal-otherwise the mower will stall. The bagging system is an overall slight improvement, with a better cover closure. However, the bag support hangers are plastic, as opposed to the heavy-duty metal system that I had with the D105.

John Deere S100 Lawn Tractor

1/5

I purchased the S100 fro Lowe's in Goose Creek, SC August of 2022, and purchased the 2 year Extended John Deere Warranty. I have a whole 12 hours on it because I can not keep it out of sparrows Kennedy shop. The mower drive belt keeps breaking and every time you place the mower drive belt into work mode, it sounds like the tractor is going to blow apart. It is the most terrible John Deere Tractor I have ever owned. This is the worst piece of JD equipment I have ever owned! Piece of junk! I have owned several other JD tractors including the Z345R I can rely on to keep running like it should.

We purchased ours 18 months ago. We’ve had pulleys bend, the belt brake, the rear drive is groaning and whining now. Big mistake buying this thing. We’ve watched the videos on deck leveling and even taken it in for professional maintenance. Its still not right. It’s too young to have quirks and I’m too old to deal with them.

Not a good tractor

2/5

I bought this a year ago. It has 3 logged hours on it. I should’ve returned it when I noticed that the whole tractor seemed like it was going to explode when I engaged the mower blade. 3 hours of use later it just quit moving? I had to load it on a trailer and take it to the local John Deere seller for repairs. I was told it would be about 2 weeks 3 weeks later I call and the service guy said 2 more weeks. As a result I’m a 72 year old man having to mow my large lawn with a push mower. This is in the middle of July where it is hot and rains every day so the grass goes here all summer. The gas tank is not attached to anything and it is just wobbling and moving around

Solid mower

4/5

I see a lot of negative reviews here, so I figured I'd balance it out. I have had this mower for 3 years and never had a problem with it. Starts every time and runs smoothly. In order to get around the blockage issues that are being reported, you need to install the high-rise blades (which are included in the purchase). I mean how many other mowers come with an extra set of blades to offer cutting options. I honestly have zero issues with the S100. Great option at this price point.

2 years and 1 month!

1/5

After 2 years and 1 month the S100 suddenly stalled and would not start again. Continuity tests on all 3 safety switches were good. Pumped out gas from tank/refueled, changed fuel filter, fuel pump, and cleaned carburetor and solenoid. Nothing. Starting fluid works initially but the machine stalls shortly after. I even blew in the gas tank to possibly relieve air in the fuel line. Only 21 hours on the machine and 1 month beyond 2 years old (ironically). Going to replace solenoid and sell this piece of junk for 1/2 the price once it starts. From the other reviews, it's only a matter of time (in the near future) the drive belt for the deck will blow. John Deere isn't what they used to be. "Used to be" my favorite company.

Doesn't cut evenly and clogs

1/5

After 20 years of excellent service from my old JD I made the mistake of purchasing a new E120. Worst piece of equipment I have ever bought. Doesn't cut evenly. When I reached out to JD they told me to contact the seller which was Home Depot. They told me they would attempt to fix it but I had to pay $100 to have it picked up. Instead I bought a leveling gauge and found that it was not correctly built. I fixed that but it still can't cut evenly. I replaced the brand new blade and it was no help. Added to that is that the chute clogs if the grass is even slightly moist. As soon as I can save up the money I will buy something that works and it won't be a JD! If anyone has any ideas on how to make this thing work I would love to hear them.

I bought my S - 100 at the beginning of the cutting season and after using it all summer, I have come to the conclusion that this mower is a great product and buy for the yard that I have. Good Mower Bad Deck

3/5

The quality above the deck is good. For years John Deere has been putting the same or similar cheap deck on many of their lower priced mowers. Because of an unusually good deal I own my second Deere mower. The first has been flawless mechanically but only a few years in the deck required welding at the rear mounts, front roller brackets, deck spindle holes, a crack in the front center. I know several owners of John Deere residential mowers who've had to have deck repairs or just bought something else. Replacement decks are roughly 1/3 the cost of a new mower. I emailed Deere years ago to suggest they reinforce the deck and the reply was THEY were satisfied the product was competitive. Deere makes good products but this isn't one of them. Compare this to a Snapper SPX that I don't sell or own stock in. Roughly the same price but comes with a sturdy, fabricated deck.

Absolutely…. Boring!!!!

5/5

If you are looking for a machine that needs maintenance and wrenching on, go somewhere else. After a year with this, my lawn mower tools are covered in cob webs. I can’t remember the last machine I had that didn’t breakdown on a regular basis. I’m extremely impressed with the quality of design as well as manufacturing. I used to get ignition “anxiety” as I call it… when I was nervous the day the grass needed cut knowing the Craftsman had a 30% fail rate on any given day. The Deere… it’s started like brand new every single start!!! Like I said, this baby is boring. It does the job . Quiet, powerful, tight turning, easy to turn, great sitting position. Another difference between my current JD and my now sold Craftsman is somehow the JD doesn’t get me dirty and full of grass clippings! I’m clean after cutting the lawn! It’s magic lol! Worth every hard earned penny to buy a Great American machine like a John Deere. My lawn is about a quarter acre… I’m not a professional and this is just for my yard

I bought this to replace my faithful ORANGE machine after many years of service. I regret switching to John Deere. After 2.36 hours of use, the belt snapped. It sounded like it was going to fall apart as soon as it was delivered and started up, so I wasn't too surprised something wasn't right with it. They need to LISTEN to the customers' belt issue, find a fix and inform everyone. They give everyone the same template response to call. Well, I tried and while the agent was nice, she admitted she had no idea what to advise.

New Purchase With Mower Deck Belt Concerns

3/5

I am not new to John Deere. Had a 125 for 16 years no real issues, loved it. Bought a 2022 S100 mid April. Checked the oil, kicked the tires, added gas and fired it up. Roared to life immediately. Slowly engaged the blades and this is when I became concerned. The deck shook as if the blades were not balanced. Removed the blades and checked blade balance. They were good. Put the blades back on and made sure the spindles were not loose. Everything checked out ok. I had my wife come out and engage the blades slowly while I observed the belt and pulleys. The mower deck belt was violently vibrating as to make the mower deck visually vibrate. This should not be happening. Disengaged the pto and put the mower away. Went online and began reading horror stories of new John Deere 100 series with basically same story as mine. However, my belt has not broken, as of yet. Some posts indicated that after the second or third belt break, they bought a replacement belt that was a little bit smaller. The problem seemed to go away. I did contact John Deere Enterprise Contact Center by phone and asked if this was a known problem. The nice lady on the other end of the phone looked and could not find anything. Bottom line, I am going buy a smaller belt, so that when the original belt fails, I can fix it quickly. I did say I loved my John Deere 125, I will not recommend until the issue is addressed.

Off to a rough start.

3/5

Mower was delivered by Home Depot on time, but with a bad battery. And I don’t mean just a dead battery, I mean a battery that tested at below 1 volt. How did this get past QC?Had to take it out myself and exchange it for a good battery at the store. Once the battery issue was sorted out, the mower started and ran fine. Used it for about an hour mulching leaves with the mulching cover installed, and it worked fine. Overall, mower seems well designed with good access to the maintenance areas. One complaint though...the “gas gauge”. Seriously? It makes me laugh. JD would have done better if they’d included a measuring stick instead of that “gauge”. In fact, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll cut down a wooden yard stick to measure the fuel level, because that fuel gauge reads all over the place. Will do another review mid summer once I’ve run the mower for a while.

Happy with the S100

5/5

This is my first riding mower and I needed one to mow 13 acres mostly in pasture. The cows and horses can only eat so much grass. I am a woman in my mid 50s and not an engineer or mechanic so really needed something that was going to be user friendly and simple. Lowes delivered the S100 a week after I purchased it online. Oil level was good and Lowes told me there would be a little bit of gas in it. They started it up before they put it on the truck just to make sure there were no issues. This is a 2022 model. I think there were more problems with the 2021 S100. It was as easy to drive as one of those little cars at Disneyland. My lawn looks great. Some of the grass was pretty tall and the S100 did great. I am going to buy the cart to tow behind it and possibly the snow blade attachment. People said I was going to need a giant tractor for my farm but I think I might just borrow my neighbors giant tractor and use the s100 for the majority of tasks on my little hobby farm. Good things can definitely come in little packages
