Get a clean cut with the flat-top design of the 48-in. (122-cm) Accel Deep™ (48A) Mower Deck

ZTrak™ Z325E with 48A Mower Deck ZTrak™ Z325E with 48A Mower Deck

The 48-in. (122-cm) Accel Deep Mower Deck is a forged-steel, deep, flat-top design that delivers excellent cut quality, productivity, cleanliness, durability, and versatility. Optimal performance and dispersion of clippings is provided, even at faster mowing speeds or in tall grass:

  • 4.83-in. (12.3-cm) deep throughout the entire deck shell for optimum mowing and mulching performance
    • Optional MulchControl™ system provides superior mulching performance and versatility.
  • Forged-steel design eliminates sharp edges and corners where material can build up and diminish mowing performance
  • Mower deck is suspended from the vehicle for a smooth and level cut
    • Adjustable mower wheels, positioned just above ground level, help reduce scalping
  • 0.25-in. (6.4-mm) cut-height increments allow the mower to be set at the desired cut height
Excellent cut quality
48A Mower Deck top 48A Mower Deck top
48A Mower Deck underside 48A Mower Deck underside

Deep mower-deck forging gives excellent cut quality. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck without getting recut:

  • Reducing the amount of re-cutting enables more power to be used to cut incoming grass, which greatly improves mower capacity.
    • Helps maintain excellent cut quality at faster mowing speeds
  • Clean flow of material out of discharge area prevents cut material from interfering with cutting the incoming grass, making it possible for the blades to cut incoming material cleanly.
  • Even in mulching mode, cut evenness is improved compared to other designs because the additional depth allows for continuous circulation, optimal re-cutting, and an even distribution of clippings.
Productivity - getting the job done fast
Right side of Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck Right side of Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck

Deep mower-deck forging gives high productivity, which gets the job done fast. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck quickly, reducing the amount of recutting so more power is available to process incoming grass:

  • Greatly improves mowers capacity to maintain excellent mowing performance in difficult mowing conditions and at higher speeds

Large discharge opening is both high and wide to handle more material:

  • Gives a smooth, even discharge of clippings at all mowing speeds
  • Reduces the chance of plugging, especially important when operating in wet, thick, or dense grass
Cleanliness - for the mower and the operator
Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck

The flat-top shape of the deck forging is optimal for keeping itself and the operator clean:

  • There are few places to catch and hold material on top and underneath the deck.
    • Top of deck stays cleaner, reducing time and effort needed for cleaning and service
    • Underside of deck is self-cleaning to maintain optimum performance without buildup of material to interfere with the flow of air and clippings
    • Less need to clean and remove buildup of material from underside deck
  • The depth of the Accel Deep Mower Deck minimizes the amount of material that escapes from the front of the deck
    • Limited amount of material to drift onto the operator and mower deck
    • Even for material discharged out the chute, less recutting results in larger pieces that are less likely to end up on the operator
    • Mulching prevents the discharge of material completely and MulchControl makes mulching a practical solution for most mowing situations.

Cleaning a mower deck, both top and bottom, is one of the most frequent maintenance activities:

  • The flat-top design reduces places for material to build up and makes material that does collect easy to remove.

Mower wheels are double captured Mower wheels are double captured

The 48A Mower Deck has strong spindle pockets, to keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough service:

  • Forged from strong 10-gauge, 0.135-in. (3.4-mm) steel
  • Ribs in the deck shell add strength where it is needed.
  • The 48A has a 23 percent heavier overall weight than the Edge™ Xtra 48-in. (122-cm) Mower Deck used on previous machines.

Mower wheels are double captured:

  • Provides greater strength and durability for longer, trouble-free life.
  • Single-bolt adjustment makes setting wheels to the correct height for the cutting height quick and easy.

Low-tension belt-drive design reduces the side load on engine lower bearings and mower deck bearings for longer life.

The 48A Mower Deck features a 5/8-in. (16-mm) diameter solid-steel rod side bumper that provides extra strength and protection.

Dual-stage E-coat and powder-paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.

Versatility - easy to change between side discharge and mulch modes

The 48A Mower Deck is designed for maximum versatility, providing the greatest ease in changing from one mower discharge mode to another:

  • With MulchControl, changing from side discharge to mulching or vice versa is done with the simple flip of a lever.
MulchControl option

The MulchControl system for the 48A Mower Deck is an optional field-installed attachment and makes mulching practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:

  • A beautiful looking lawn
  • Grass clippings not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
  • Less fertilizer use
  • Elimination of the effort needed to dispose of clippings
How MulchControl works
MulchControl baffle open MulchControl baffle open
MulchControl baffle closed MulchControl baffle closed

MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:

  • The MulchControl attachment includes baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
    • The MulchControl baffle, or divider, between the left and middle spindles is about halfway down. The height is designed to balance the mulching and side-discharge modes.
    • When the MulchControl baffle is open, the divider between the left and middle spindles passes a portion of the material to the discharge opening, along with the material from the middle and right spindle areas.
    • When the MulchControl baffle is closed, the material stays within the deck and gets chopped into mulch and deposited in the turf.
MulchControl handle MulchControl handle
  • The MulchControl handle is located on top of the mower deck and used to open and close the discharge baffle.
    • The operator is required to get off the machine in order to engage or disengage mulch mode.
  • Changing from mulching to side discharge or vice versa takes only a few seconds.

MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:

  • Usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
  • Usually side-discharge, but would like to be able to close the chute to control clippings
  • Always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns

MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings. The operator can have all the benefits of mulching with the ability to easily change to side discharge when needed.

While in the side-discharge mode, MulchControl still mulches about one-third of the material. Therefore, the side-discharge mode is essentially a partial-mulch mode. This can be an advantage as it helps to reduce the amount of material being discharged. Other times this could work as a disadvantage:

  • When cutting strong southern grasses, such as Zoysia and Bermuda
  • When cutting in wet, high-growth conditions, such as those found in the Pacific Northwest United States
  • When optimum bagging and lawn cleanup is desired

The bagger design provides modern styling, great bagging performance, cleaner operation, and easy-to-empty bags:

  • Easy-to-attach Power Flow blower and chute

It’s a great mower!

I love it, every part of it makes me happy with the exception of the choke/throttle control. The levers themselves are extremely flimsy and take quite a smack to move forward or backwards and I feel will break sooner than later

I purchased this fie machine about a month ago it has only 7 hours on it. I was having an issue with the bagger and it sliding down the hills. The mechanic came out to look at it and said that was not the machine that I should have purchased! Come to find out the zero turn does not do hills well?? No one told me that when I purchased it. If they had I never would have purchased it! I have 4 acers of hills and trees! Please be sure to ask ALOT of questions before buying. They told me I could cut the grass in half the time, Big deal if you run into things because it slides down the hill with No way to controlIT!!

Great perfoming machine.

5/5

I have owned this about 1 1/2 months and it works great. I've always wanted a riding lawnmower and the ease of use is very nice. It starts up with minimal choke & throttle, no struggling in tall, thick grass and I love how close I can get to objects! It performs well and is just overall fun to use. The only thing it's missing is a fridge on hot days!

330m ztrak

5/5

I traded in my z335e for the 330m and what a pleasant difference. the 54 inch deck with 3 blades has cut off 15-20 minutes from my 90 minute job. it cuts the grass more efficiently than my mulching kit for the 335e. purchasing it thru proven power however, I feel more secure, knowing I will have their support

This was my first zero turn mower, have four regular John Deere lawn tractors. I did enjoy the ease of mowing and speed that it could be done. What I did not like about the Z330M, was that in dry grass the dirt and grass debris would blow out in the front of the mower deck and up in the front to cover the driver in dirt. I felt that I needed to wear goggles and a face mask. Used it for seven hours and decided to return it.

this is one great machine. i upgraded from the Z335e to 330m. the larger deck 42" to 54" cut my mowing time by 1/2 hour and cuts the grass up better than the freedom deck with the mulcher. it's great knowing i have proven power right up the road to take care of me

High quality and value

5/5

I purchased the mower a little over a month ago - so have only used it a few times. It is clearly well made. Having used another, well known zero-turn brand, I can say definitively that the Deere is superior - controls are solid and smooth. Cut quality is excellent. I have a 48" deck - plenty for my lawn, and I'm glad I went with that size rather than a 54" or larger. It is very agile; steering is easy, natural and responsive. Lastly - I particularly like the wide stance. My yard has pretty steep sloped areas and the Deere handles them with ease and stability.

Hi I'm very happy about my purchase of this lawn mower. It has great performance. It is made well and makes mowing a lot less of a chore. I had great customer service with this purchase. I would recommend John Deere to anyone who needs a new lawn mower. I would also recommend TriGreen and Fort Payne Alabama for great customer service for this purchase.

I have had my mower about a month and I love it.. it dose a super nice job and has great power. I love everything about the mower but if I had to make one complaint it's that I am 6 foot tall and I have to put my heals clear out at the end of the floorboard so a can move the steering bars without hitting my knees but not a big issue would highly recommend the mower

It’s set up very nice, comfortable, quiet, smooth, runs great…. But, it doesn’t cut great. My 2013 Toro that has a half horsepower larger motor and a 6” smaller cutting deck cuts smoother and cleaner than this new one. I end up having to go over the entire yard twice to make it look clean and even. Nothing seems wrong with it, it’s just a subpar cut. I expected better.

Overall works well. Engine seems to have poor valve guides. Smokes quite a bit after sitting for a few days, blue smoke which indicates unburned engine oil. I wouldn't expect this after less than 10 hours on a new engine. The right hydraulic drive seems to not work as well as the left, especially in reverse. I'll be bringing it in for a warranty checkup.

Great cut. Easy to service.

5/5

I have only mowed a few times since purchase, however, so far, I am very pleased. I mow about an acre and cut is very good. I had a much larger JD before and I think this one is superior cut. I would highly recommend.

Best Decision Ever

5/5

I made the leap and purchased my John Deere Z330M Ztrak mower a year ago and I am so very thankful that I did. I have just over 2 acres and the difference in cutting my lawn from using my old Craftsman riding mower is simply no contest. Decreased cutting time, precision, comfort and reliability. What more could you ask for?

Come on Spring!

4/5

I bought this at Thanksgiving & haven’t had to actually “mow” with it yet. I wanted time to get use to (practice with) a zero turn mower before actually trying to navigate around my yard features. In short, I didn’t want to give my neighbors a comedy show. 😂

Easy and comfortable … great cut

5/5

Just right for my .75 acre lawn and great value in this category. Additionally I like the controls and the Kawasaki motor. It is so easy to drive and comfortable. Deck provides plenty of lift and excellent clean cut.

Upgraded

4/5

I bought the Z330M as an upgrade from my 5 year old Z335E. My 335E had run flawlessly during my time with it, co when I decided to upgrade I figured I'd stick with John Deere. Went to the local JD dealer and they didn't have an 3 series in stock, so I checked with Lowes and they had the 330M in stock. The nice thing about purchasing from Lowes is the 10% military discount they offer. The disadvantage is they don't have any really product support. I've had the 330M for about 6 weeks and put about 20 hours on it, and it's been flawless. I did add a mulching kit, which was simple and easy to install and it works considerably better than the one on my 335E. My only real complaint is I would like the seat to go further back. I'm 6'4" and weigh 240, so it would be nice to have a few more inches of adjustability.

Decent small mower for the $

4/5

Bought this mower February of 23, got the Kawasaki 23hp engine only way to go ima and 48” deck. Mows smooth as John Deere does. Starts easy every time have around 25-30 hrs on it. I like the flip up pulley covers make for easy cleaning high back seat adjustable only this is it doesn’t slide you have to loosen up the knobs under the seat no biggy unless you may need to adjust on the move. Slides on slopes and rear tracking is off still trying to figure that one out been mowing with it from the day it was delivered yes it was cold hats gloves and toboggan lol. If you have a flat yard I’d recommend hands down over all the competition out there JD in this series is hands down better. No cut out to where you see the blades like the husky’s and other brands I think that’s dangerous plus it does throw the grass out smoothly like the jd my neighbor has a husky wishes he got the jd other has bad boy it’s a bigger z but my 330 still out mows it. It has some pet peeves like the rear tracking that can get you in a tight spot but I’m sure I’ll figure it out. If you have slopes and hills consider an bigger z track they hold better or a x model riding mower that has a di lock. Good luck on your purchase hope this helps someone. I’d add photos but on break at work. But for the money and in this. Class of small z tracks John Deere beats them all I’ve demo a lot of them and the design is better I’m my opinion and alot of others that have a different brand and see and now with mine.

My review for Z330M -ZTrak Mower with 54-in. Deck

2/5

Purchased at Lowes late March 2023. Deck belt went bad after 23.6 hours of use. I took the belt back to Lowes but the only belt reference guide they have is for products made in 2022 or earlier. My mower was manufactured in early 2023. The Lowes associate tried to match my bad belt with what they have in stock, which turned out to be a wider (5/8) belt. The original belt is 1/2" wide. Lowes didn't charge me for the new belt but after I installed it, it broke after about 4 hours of use (on two different days). Now, I'm dead in the water. (This mower is home use only and I'm the only operator).
