Get a clean cut with the flat-top design of the 48-in. (122-cm) Accel Deep™ (48A) Mower Deck

ZTrak™ Z325E with 48A Mower Deck ZTrak™ Z325E with 48A Mower Deck

The 48-in. (122-cm) Accel Deep Mower Deck is a forged-steel, deep, flat-top design that delivers excellent cut quality, productivity, cleanliness, durability, and versatility. Optimal performance and dispersion of clippings is provided, even at faster mowing speeds or in tall grass:

  • 4.83-in. (12.3-cm) deep throughout the entire deck shell for optimum mowing and mulching performance
    • Optional MulchControl™ system provides superior mulching performance and versatility.
  • Forged-steel design eliminates sharp edges and corners where material can build up and diminish mowing performance
  • Mower deck is suspended from the vehicle for a smooth and level cut
    • Adjustable mower wheels, positioned just above ground level, help reduce scalping
  • 0.25-in. (6.4-mm) cut-height increments allow the mower to be set at the desired cut height
Excellent cut quality
48A Mower Deck top 48A Mower Deck top
48A Mower Deck underside 48A Mower Deck underside

Deep mower-deck forging gives excellent cut quality. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck without getting recut:

  • Reducing the amount of re-cutting enables more power to be used to cut incoming grass, which greatly improves mower capacity.
    • Helps maintain excellent cut quality at faster mowing speeds
  • Clean flow of material out of discharge area prevents cut material from interfering with cutting the incoming grass, making it possible for the blades to cut incoming material cleanly.
  • Even in mulching mode, cut evenness is improved compared to other designs because the additional depth allows for continuous circulation, optimal re-cutting, and an even distribution of clippings.
Productivity - getting the job done fast
Right side of Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck Right side of Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck

Deep mower-deck forging gives high productivity, which gets the job done fast. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck quickly, reducing the amount of recutting so more power is available to process incoming grass:

  • Greatly improves mowers capacity to maintain excellent mowing performance in difficult mowing conditions and at higher speeds

Large discharge opening is both high and wide to handle more material:

  • Gives a smooth, even discharge of clippings at all mowing speeds
  • Reduces the chance of plugging, especially important when operating in wet, thick, or dense grass
Cleanliness - for the mower and the operator
Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck

The flat-top shape of the deck forging is optimal for keeping itself and the operator clean:

  • There are few places to catch and hold material on top and underneath the deck.
    • Top of deck stays cleaner, reducing time and effort needed for cleaning and service
    • Underside of deck is self-cleaning to maintain optimum performance without buildup of material to interfere with the flow of air and clippings
    • Less need to clean and remove buildup of material from underside deck
  • The depth of the Accel Deep Mower Deck minimizes the amount of material that escapes from the front of the deck
    • Limited amount of material to drift onto the operator and mower deck
    • Even for material discharged out the chute, less recutting results in larger pieces that are less likely to end up on the operator
    • Mulching prevents the discharge of material completely and MulchControl makes mulching a practical solution for most mowing situations.

Cleaning a mower deck, both top and bottom, is one of the most frequent maintenance activities:

  • The flat-top design reduces places for material to build up and makes material that does collect easy to remove.

Mower wheels are double captured Mower wheels are double captured

The 48A Mower Deck has strong spindle pockets, to keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough service:

  • Forged from strong 10-gauge, 0.135-in. (3.4-mm) steel
  • Ribs in the deck shell add strength where it is needed.
  • The 48A has a 23 percent heavier overall weight than the Edge™ Xtra 48-in. (122-cm) Mower Deck used on previous machines.

Mower wheels are double captured:

  • Provides greater strength and durability for longer, trouble-free life.
  • Single-bolt adjustment makes setting wheels to the correct height for the cutting height quick and easy.

Low-tension belt-drive design reduces the side load on engine lower bearings and mower deck bearings for longer life.

The 48A Mower Deck features a 5/8-in. (16-mm) diameter solid-steel rod side bumper that provides extra strength and protection.

Dual-stage E-coat and powder-paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.

Versatility - easy to change between side discharge and mulch modes

The 48A Mower Deck is designed for maximum versatility, providing the greatest ease in changing from one mower discharge mode to another:

  • With MulchControl, changing from side discharge to mulching or vice versa is done with the simple flip of a lever.
MulchControl option

The MulchControl system for the 48A Mower Deck is an optional field-installed attachment and makes mulching practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:

  • A beautiful looking lawn
  • Grass clippings not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
  • Less fertilizer use
  • Elimination of the effort needed to dispose of clippings
How MulchControl works
MulchControl baffle open MulchControl baffle open
MulchControl baffle closed MulchControl baffle closed

MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:

  • The MulchControl attachment includes baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
    • The MulchControl baffle, or divider, between the left and middle spindles is about halfway down. The height is designed to balance the mulching and side-discharge modes.
    • When the MulchControl baffle is open, the divider between the left and middle spindles passes a portion of the material to the discharge opening, along with the material from the middle and right spindle areas.
    • When the MulchControl baffle is closed, the material stays within the deck and gets chopped into mulch and deposited in the turf.
MulchControl handle MulchControl handle
  • The MulchControl handle is located on top of the mower deck and used to open and close the discharge baffle.
    • The operator is required to get off the machine in order to engage or disengage mulch mode.
  • Changing from mulching to side discharge or vice versa takes only a few seconds.

MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:

  • Usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
  • Usually side-discharge, but would like to be able to close the chute to control clippings
  • Always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns

MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings. The operator can have all the benefits of mulching with the ability to easily change to side discharge when needed.

While in the side-discharge mode, MulchControl still mulches about one-third of the material. Therefore, the side-discharge mode is essentially a partial-mulch mode. This can be an advantage as it helps to reduce the amount of material being discharged. Other times this could work as a disadvantage:

  • When cutting strong southern grasses, such as Zoysia and Bermuda
  • When cutting in wet, high-growth conditions, such as those found in the Pacific Northwest United States
  • When optimum bagging and lawn cleanup is desired

The bagger design provides modern styling, great bagging performance, cleaner operation, and easy-to-empty bags:

  • Easy-to-attach Power Flow blower and chute
  • Power Flow blower swings out for easy cleanout and cleanup
  • Air exhaust duct
  • Convenient spring-latch
  • Airflow fill indicator
  • Quik-Tatch™ mounting

i bought this a year ago. used it once in 1st month abs belt snapped. Called home depot who informed me it was not covered under 90 day warranty. Call john deer who also informed me i had to pay for the new belt. The zero turn works well but i am always anxious that the belt will snap again.

Nothing

I had a John Deere zero turn lawn mower less than 2 years old catch fire and burn up and they would not replace it because they said that they have had people set them on fire. My husband could have been badly hurt if he had not felt it getting hot and looked back to see it on fire. It was a zero turn lawn mower that we bought from Sparrow Kennedy in Scranton SC. Neither Sparrow Kennedy nor JohnDeere would replace it. Now they expect me to finish paying it off. My mower wasn’t this one but it was a John Deere zero turn.

I bought this mower a couple weeks ago and my belt has already went out on my deck. I bought another belt from John Deere and it has come in. I’m having hell trying to put it on myself. I don’t want to take it to a shop when I’m capable of doing it myself but I can’t find any videos on replacing it. I love the mower can anyone help me please.

Perfect for me

5/5

After cutting 2.3 acres with a 20 year old 42" riding mower for 20 years this purchase was one of the best decisions I've made (way long over due). It would take the better part of 4 hours especially if I let the grass grow too high. I would have to cut the grass twice lowering the deck each time as to not have the mower bogg down. The first time I used my Z325E, it only took about an hour to cut the lawn. It blew through the grass with ease and never bogged down, even running twice as fast as my old rider. I would have opted for a larger unit, but I have many obstacles to cut around. The 48 inch deck was perfect. I've also purchased the mulching kit for this unit which does a great job of mulching the clippings without leaving clumps of clippings in my wake. I would recommend this unit for the residential homeowner that have around 2 acres of lawn.

Mower purchased 3-5-24. Less than 2 hours on time meter. Thrown deck belt on third use. Time and trouble to load and transport to dealer. Hoping dealer will stand behind his product and repair promptly. Been using a JD 110 Lawn tractor on my present lawn for over 50 years and it's still running. Was hoping the new mower would be of equal quality and dependability. Now doubtful.

We received our ZTrak in April 2023, just in time to start mowing our 4 acres! It did an amazing job on our somewhat rocky pasture. We were able to navigate large rocks without damaging the blades. It's easy to clean, too. Just hook up your hose to its base to clean the blades. The first day we got it, we spent half an hour just spinning circles! LOL!

I bought this mower in mid 2023. It has greatly cut my work time by 3/4 of the time that it use to take me. It cuts great, though I think that the floating deck could have been done better. There are spots in the yards that I cut that, if it's not too well level, the mower will scalp those spots. I have used Zero turns in the past and did not have this problem. Otherwise, I am very happy with it.

Need a lock nut or double nut for front deck ubol

4/5

Bought this mower 3 months ago upgrading from am old l130. Mows very smoothly and doesn't bog down. Like every zero turn you can't mow sideways on a hill without sliding. The only issue I've run into is the front u bar that holds the front of the deck rattled off its holding nut and made my deck go crooked. Why wouldn't you guys use a locking nut or atleast double nut it? Other than that it's been a great mower. I've put 40 hours on it so far.

I bouth this 48" mower for my husband for father's day, after 2 hrs of use we had to bring it into the shop and they put a new motor in as this one had a cracked cylander. After 2 weeks we got it back now today after 1 hour of use it died in the middle of our yard. We called and was told it can't be picked up until Friday, today is Tuesday. I am very disappointed in this purchase and even more disappointed that today's call didnt result in immediate action. I expect a new mower and not a repair job.

Great Mower

5/5

I bought a Z325e 4 months ago and am very happy with the purchase. I mow a mostly uneven rough and steep yard with no issues. The mower starts very easily cold or hot. It mows evenly in flat areas, steers easily, and makes tight turns. This isn't my first John Deere purchase. I have bought 3 new JD riders from a 100-300 series. I am very satisfied with the new s120 and the x325e. Good products.

Very pleased!

5/5

When I built my house in 2004 I bought a 42 inch John Deere. It was a good mower but now it's 19 years later and I have a large yard. My 42 inch was 17 years old and non mulching and so I usually raked the grass after I mowed as I didn't think all that now dead/cut grass looked good lying out there on the yard (especially after it browned out a day or two later). I recently upgraded to a 48 inch mulching mower. So glad I did! The yard looks great and now there's no raking or leaving spent yellowing dead grass behind! I love it!

No completely impressed

3/5

This is my first zero turn mower. The first issue I came across was that, first mow, it was cutting very unevenly. After a few mows, I found that the deck was uneven from the factory (very frustrating). The control arms seem to be operating evenly, but one side is adjusted way out and the other way in. I still need to figure out what that's all about. The deck fills up with grass very quickly like it's holding it rather than ejecting it. I also don't understand why it's doing that. It's hard to start every time. Sometimes I wonder if it's even going to start. I expect a brand new mower to start withing 2-3 seconds from turning the key. Mine turns over for about 5-7 seconds before finally starting. I was asked to mow a family members yard with a big hill. It was terrible at climbing the hill. The tires filled with grass and mud and were worthless, and a little dangerous. I'm going to have to get better tires to mow anything like that again. The mower just can't handle it. After figuring out the deck adjustment, it mows pretty evenly. After it gets started, it runs fine. It's very easy to maneuver. I expected a lot more out of this mower for the price and the name on it. I've had it for about 6 weeks, and I'm going to look into exchanging it.

Good mower

5/5

I bought this mower about 3 months ago and so far it is great. It can plow through very tall grass and weeds with ease. The 24 HP engine is strong and doesn't bog down when mowing the tall weeds. When I mow my grass at normal height I can mow at top speed with no problem. This mower may not have all the whistles and bells the more expensive ones have, but has everything I need and works great. The seat is comfortable and it's a pleasure to mow with. For the price it's a great mower and I would buy another one. I do recommend this mower and you don't have to break the bank buying it.
