Optional high-performance mulching attachment

Mulching attachment components (48 HC shown) Mulching attachment components (48 HC shown)

The high-performance mulching attachment provides excellent mulching performance:

  • This is a high-performance mulching attachment that includes formed steel baffles to control the material and special mulching blades for superior performance.
    • The special mulching blades that are included can also be used for side discharging and collecting, though overall performance may be slightly less than with the standard blades.
  • Order: BM23977, 54 HC mulching attachment  or BM23978 60 HC mulching attachment

Optional MulchControl™ attachment

MulchControl with baffle closed MulchControl with baffle closed
MulchControl with baffle open MulchControl with baffle open

The MulchControl attachment makes mulching more practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge or collect the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:

  • A beautiful looking lawn
  • Grass clippings not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
  • Less fertilizer use
  • Elimination of the effort needed to dispose of clippings

MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:

  • The MulchControl attachment includes baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
  • The left mower blade area is completely enclosed and optimized for mulching, thus will mulch even when the mower is in the side-discharge mode.
  • Baffles around the center and right blades are optimized for mulching when the discharge baffle is closed.
MulchControl operation
MulchControl handle (standard with MulchControl) MulchControl handle (standard with MulchControl)
Hydraulic MulchControl actuator option Hydraulic MulchControl actuator option

The optional MulchControl attachment comes with a handle on top of the mower deck that is used to open and close the discharge baffle:

  • The operator is required to get off of the machine in order to engage or disengage mulch mode.

An optional hydraulic MulchControl actuator attachment is available to replace the standard control lever and allow the operator to control MulchControl from the seat using the tractor’s hydraulic control lever.

NOTE: To have hydraulic control of the MulchControl baffle, both MulchControl and hydraulic MulchControl actuator attachments must be ordered. The hydraulic MulchControl actuator is an extra-cost option for the MulchControl attachment.

Changing from mulching to side discharge or vice versa with the hand lever or hydraulic MulchControl actuator option takes only a few seconds.

MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:

  • Usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
  • Usually side discharge, but would like to be able to close the chute to control clippings
  • Always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns
  • Bag clippings, but want to go farther before emptying bags

MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings. Now the operator can have all the benefits of mulching with the ability to easily change to side-discharge or bagging when needed.

MulchControl limitations

While in the side-discharge mode, MulchControl will still mulch about one-third of the material. Therefore, the side-discharge mode is essentially a partial-mulch mode. This can be an advantage when side discharging or bagging, as it helps to reduce the amount of material being discharged. Other times this could work as a disadvantage:

  • When cutting strong southern grasses, such as Zoysia and Bermuda
  • When cutting in wet, high-growth conditions, such as those found in the Pacific Northwest United States
  • When optimum bagging and lawn clean-up is desired

MulchControl compatibility

MulchControl is a field-installed attachment. Mulching blades are included:

  • MulchControl is for 2015 and newer X700 Signature Series Tractor and:

Four-wheel power steering for superior maneuverability and trimming

X734 Tractor trimming around tree X734 Tractor trimming around tree
X739 Tractor trimming around a tree X739 Tractor trimming around a tree

Power steering is standard equipment on all X700 Series Tractors. It provides effortless, automotive-like control:

  • Reduced operator fatigue
  • Better maneuverability
  • Increased productivity

Four-wheel power steering on the X734, X739, and X754 Tractors provides very significant maneuverability and trimming advantages over two-wheel-steering equipped tractors:

   1. The uncut circle diameter is greatly reduced, eliminating or greatly reducing the need to back up when trimming around trees, shrubs, etc.

  • Cutting inside turns created by landscaping, flower beds, etc. can also be done much more efficiently with a four-wheel-steer equipped tractor.

   2. Interference from the mower and tractor wheels is eliminated because they are several inches away from the object being trimmed around.

  • When cutting rectangle-shaped areas, square corners can be cut more effectively and efficiently.

   3. The outside turning circle is reduced, decreasing the time spent turning and increasing mowing efficiency.

The X739 Tractor has both full-time four-wheel drive (4WD) and four-wheel steering, which gives it the optimum in both traction and maneuverability.

Transmission oil cooler

The transmission oil cooler is standard equipment:

  • Helps keep oil temperatures cooler during high draft load operations
  • Separate automotive-style cooler that provides increased capacity for the oil cooler as well as the radiator, when compared to an oil cooler internal to the radiator
Full-time 4WD for superior traction
X738 Tractor mowing X738 Tractor mowing
Full-time 4WD front axle Full-time 4WD front axle

The full-time 4WD front axle provides a superior combination of traction and maneuverability. When the tractor is in a turn, the front wheels need to rotate faster because of the larger arc, compared to the rear wheels, they are traveling in. The hydrostatic front-wheel motors automatically increase the average travel speed of the front wheels when the tractor is in a turn.

The full-time 4WD system optimizes steering performance to provide maneuverability and trimming ability comparable to that of 2WD models, turning radius of 25 in. (63.5 cm) for two-wheel steer models and 21 in. (53.3 cm) for four- wheel steer models, with the added benefit of four-wheel traction.

Full-time 4WD front-wheel motors are powered by the same pressurized hydraulic fluid that powers the rear transaxle drive motor:

  • Hydraulic lines move the pressurized fluid from the rear axle to the front-wheel drive motors, located near the center of the front axle, after the oil has passed through the rear transaxle drive motor.
  • The two front wheel motors receive fluid in parallel so each gets the amount of fluid needed to enable different speeds during turns, similar to a differential assembly, and allow smooth turns.
  • Turning radius of tractors with full-time 4WD is the same as for 2WD models, and considerably less than the turning radius for tractors with mechanical 4WD.
  • Full-time 4WD functions in forward and reverse.
Control arm increases front-wheel speed in turns Control arm increases front-wheel speed in turns
Front-wheel drop-axle Front-wheel drop-axle
  • A control rod (looks similar to a steering drag link) adjusts the swash plate of the variable-speed wheel motors, so each wheel motor is operated at the optimum speed during turns to minimize tire scuffing and assist in making tight turns.
  • Front-wheel drop-axles provide extra-tight steering capability, improved ground clearance, and include speed-reduction gearing.

MulchControl™ system provides superior mulching performance and rapid conversion

X730 Tractor mowing X730 Tractor mowing
MulchControl handle (shown on 60-in. [152-cm] Mower Deck) MulchControl handle (shown on 60-in. [152-cm] Mower Deck)

The optional MulchControl system makes mulching more practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching, but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge or collect the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:

  • Creates a beautiful looking lawn
  • Smaller grass clippings disappear into the lawn canopy
  • Reduces fertilizer needs
  • Grass clippings are not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
  • No need to dispose of bags of clippings
How MulchControl works
MulchControl baffle open (shown on 60-in. [152-cm] High-Capacity Mower Deck) MulchControl baffle open (shown on 60-in. [152-cm] High-Capacity Mower Deck)
MulchControl baffle closed (shown on 60-in. [152-cm] High-Capacity Mower Deck) MulchControl baffle closed (shown on 60-in. [152-cm] High-Capacity Mower Deck)

MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:

  • The MulchControl system includes an adjustable MulchControl baffle near the discharge chute and fixed baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
  • The MulchControl handle, or a hydraulic actuator, is on top of the mower deck and is used to open and close the MulchControl baffle.
  • When the MulchControl baffle is open, most of the material flows freely out the discharge deflector or into a material collection system.
  • When the MulchControl baffle is closed, material stays within the deck and gets chopped into mulch and deposited in the turf.

MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:

  • For operators who usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
  • For operators who usually side discharge, but would like to close the chute to control clippings in some areas
  • For operators who always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns
  • For operators who collect clippings but want to go farther before emptying the material collection system

MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings.

Hydraulic MulchControl actuator option (model year 2019 and newer 54 HC and 60 HC Mowers Decks only)

An optional hydraulic MulchControl actuator is available to shift the MulchControl baffle using the tractor’s hydraulic control lever. Operators can convert between modes without interrupting the mowing process, making it possible to change between modes:

  • When approaching driveways or flowerbeds where clippings would be undesirable
  • When a breeze blows clippings back onto the operator
  • For side discharge mowing only the areas of the property where grass is too thick for mulching
  • For collecting only the areas of the property where grass is too tall or thick for mulching
MulchControl limitations

While in the side-discharge mode, MulchControl still mulches about one third of the material.

  • When optimum bagging and lawn cleanup is desired

The MulchControl baffle can be opened or closed with the Power Flow™ blower installed. The Power Flow blower runs without material when the baffle is closed.

MulchControl compatibility

Each MulchControl system is an optional field-installed attachment and includes everything needed for handle actuation: baffles, handle, and mulch blades. If desired the optional hydraulic actuator needs to be ordered separately.

MulchControl is compatible with model year 2013 and newer X700 Signature Series Tractors (serial number 10,001-) with one of the following mower decks:

Features are as follows:

  • Blower is hinged to provide easy installation.
  • Blower is easy to swing out for easy cleanout.
  • Blower fan runs in a clockwise direction (viewed from the right side) to efficiently move material up the chute.

The Power Flow blower works well with either the standard mower blades or the mulching blades.

Each of the John Deere material collection systems has durable construction for long life in homeowner or commercial applications.

*NOTE: The three-bag, 14-bu (493-L) Power Flow is not compatible with a X729, X739, or X749 Tractor equipped with a 48X Mower Deck because the chute can contact the rear tire in a turn. However, it is compatible with the 48 Accel Deep (48A) Mower because the increased deck height and the height of its Power Flow blower housing lift the chute high enough to clear the wheel and fender with the three-bag hopper installed.

  • 4.83-in. (12.3-cm) depth throughout the entire deck shell for optimum mowing, mulching, and bagging performance
    • Optional MulchControl™ system provides superior mulching performance and versatility.
  • Stamped-steel design eliminates sharp edges and corners where material can build up and diminish mowing performance
  • Mower deck is suspended from the vehicle for a smooth and level cut
    • Adjustable mower wheels, positioned just above ground level, help reduce scalping
  • 0.25-in. (6.4-mm) cut-height increments allow the mower to be set at the desired cut height
  • Compatible with high-performance Power Flow™ material collection systems
  • For use on X730, X734, X738, X739, X750, X754, and X758

NOTE: The 9077M 48A Mower Deck requires a standard connect or auto connect attachment (similar to 54 HC and 60 HC Mower Decks). Unlike the 54 HC and 60 HC, the shaft drive 48A Mower Deck is not a drive-over deck. Operators can rotate the mower wheels 90 degrees and roll the 48A Mower Deck under an X700 Signature Series Tractor and utilize the auto connect to connect the power take-off (PTO) shaft.

Excellent cut quality
48A Mower Deck top 48A Mower Deck top
48A Mower Deck underside 48A Mower Deck underside

Deep mower-deck stamping gives excellent cut quality. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck without getting recut:

  • Reducing the amount of recutting enables more power to be used to cut incoming grass, which greatly improves mower capacity.
    • Helps maintain excellent cut quality at faster mowing speeds
  • Clean flow of material out of discharge area prevents cut material from interfering with cutting the incoming grass, making it possible for the blades to cut incoming material cleanly.
  • Even in mulching mode, cut evenness is improved compared to other designs because the additional depth allows for continuous circulation, optimal recutting, and an even distribution of clippings.
  • Exact Adjust deck-leveling system allows for easy and accurate leveling of the mower deck
Productivity - getting the job done fast
Right side of Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck (shown on X380 Tractor) Right side of Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck (shown on X380 Tractor)

Deep mower-deck stamping gives high productivity, which gets the job done fast. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck quickly, reducing the amount of recutting so more power is available to process incoming grass:

  • Greatly improves mowers capacity to maintain excellent mowing performance in difficult mowing conditions and at higher speeds

Large discharge opening is both high and wide to handle more material:

  • Gives a smooth, even discharge of clippings at all mowing speeds
  • Reduces the chance of plugging, especially important when operating in wet, thick, or dense grass and when bagging
  • The 48A Power Flow blower has an inlet housing with over 50 percent greater area than the 48X Power Flow blower used on previous machines.
Cleanliness - for the mower and the operator

Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck (shown on X300 Series Tractor) Accel Deep 48A Mower Deck (shown on X300 Series Tractor)

The flat-top shape of the deck stamping is optimal for keeping itself and the operator clean:

  • There are few places to catch and hold material on top and underneath the deck.
    • Top of deck stays cleaner, reducing time and effort needed for cleaning and service
    • Underside of deck is self-cleaning to maintain optimum performance without buildup of material to interfere with the flow of air and clippings
    • Less need to clean and remove buildup of material from the underside of the deck
  • The depth of the Accel Deep mower deck minimizes the amount of material that escapes from the front of the deck.
    • Limited amount of material drifts onto the operator and mower deck.
    • Even for material discharged out the chute, less recutting results in larger pieces that are less likely to end up on the operator.
    • Mulching prevents the discharge of material completely and MulchControl makes mulching a practical solution for most mowing situations.

Cleaning a mower deck, both top and bottom, is one of the most frequent maintenance activities:

  • The flat-top design reduces places for material to build up and makes material that does collect easy to remove.

  • Stamped from strong 10-gauge, 0.135-in. (3.4-mm) steel
  • Ribs in the deck shell add strength where it is needed.
  • The 48A has a 23 percent heavier overall weight than the Edge™ Xtra 48-in. (122-cm) Mower Deck used on previous machines.

Mower wheels are heavy duty:

  • Provides greater strength and durability for longer, trouble-free life.
  • Setting wheels to the correct height for the cutting height is quick and easy.

The 48A Mower Deck features a 5/8-in. (16-mm) diameter solid-steel rod side bumper that provides extra strength and protection.

Dual-stage E-coat and powder-paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.

Versatility - easy to change between side discharge, mulch, and bagging modes

The 48A Mower Deck is designed for maximum versatility, providing the greatest ease in changing from one mower discharge mode to another:

  • With the optional MulchControl system installed (along with the special mulching blades), changing from side discharge to mulching or vice versa is done with the simple flip of a lever.
    • It is not necessary to change blades when changing discharge modes because the mulching blades are designed for side discharge as well.
  • The Power Flow rear bagger can be used with MulchControl by simply placing the MulchControl lever in the side-discharge position.

A variety of material collection systems is available for use with the Power Flow blower:

  • 14-bu (493-L) three-bag Power Flow rear bagger
  • 19-bu (670-L) MC519 Cart

The Power Flow blower and chute are easy to install. The Power Flow blower swings out for easy cleanout and cleanup.

X739 Lemon / Poor Performance

1/5

Purchased X739 two month ago, but had to return it. Had multiple issues with hydraulic leaking, mower deck design/installation, grinding noises, factory assembly of hoses routed wrong, mulch kit did not properly fit on 54 HC deck (JD known issue) and more. fixed most issues with dealer assistance, but not the grinding noise in deck. Very difficult to maintain a straight line mowing. Mower deck limited height due to 4-wheel steer. Dealer was awesome, but I lost a lot of resources (time and money) in the process. Recommend a robust test drive of the 739 in comparison to 738 prior to purchase.

The impressive X739 Monster Mower

5/5

This X739 monster mower/tractor by JD is just plain Bad A ! It has 4 wheel power steering , 4x4 wheel Lock for extra tough terrain or FT AWD, hydraulic deck up and down , quick on/off drive over deck attach or removal, plug in quick dis connect ports for installing the front snow plow blade or other optional equipment , a very comfortable multi adjustable drivers seat , a charging port for cell phone / accessories , and both front and rear super bright headlamps for doing night work , and has a high capacity mower deck ! When my neighbors see me using it , it’s always a head turner . I have nothing but great things to say about this tractor/mower ! It’s smooth , powerful, quiet , has a great turning radius , and is easy to operate ! I highly recommend this product . I also highly recommend Ross Edney (712) 216-1130 at Missouri Valley Agrivision John Deere dealership . Ross has always gone above and beyond for me as a Sales Professional , to make sure that everything aspect of my purchase has been taken care of in a timely manner from beginning to finish !

Disappointed

2/5

I bought this mower last month and am a little disappointed. I think it lacks power when mowing and going up hills. My old mower was much better. I also had a fit of missing and running bad with only 7 hours on it. Of course they can't find what's wrong with it.

Just buy it!! You will not regret.

5/5

A fabulous machine. I decided about 4 years ago that I needed 4WD/4WS. Two years ago I got a quote on the X739. This year I finally pulled the trigger and bought it at my local Deere dealer. Absolutely love it !!! Never should've waited. My yard is all hills and curves with islands and obstacles. Landscaper with zero turn absolutely hated mowing it because zero turns can't hold slopes easily and maneuver on them with obstacles. My X739 is PERFECT. It holds slopes, turns on a dime, circles around anything and the wheels never slip. Its synchronized front axle doesn't tear grass either. I was hesitant to buy because I only mow 3/4 acre and thought it might be too much machine. Its not. Its nimble and agile. Delivery guy told me this was the third one he delivered to my neighborhood. Its a joy to drive. It mows flawlessly (54" deck) and I LOVE the hydraulic mulch control option. So nice to not have to worry about the discharge direction when mowing past a sidewalk or the pool. Just turn off the discharge with a lever and re-engage when past. Motor is great - runs smooth - plenty power to run mower and tackle grades. Relatively quiet for a machine of this size. If you can't tell, I am super impressed and quite satisfied.

My 2nd X739...

5/5

This is my second X739. I traded in my 2015 X739 for my new 2024 X739 with a new 60' deck. I mow and maintain around three acres of lawn at my home, plus I use it (donate time) to mow "hard to reach" areas at our local golf course. I live in the "bluff land" along the Mississippi River in S.E. Minnesota which means a lot of our land is sloped... this is where the 4-Wheel Drive & 4-Wheel Steer come into play. In the winters of MN, I attach a 54" snowblower to handle deep snows and I don't have to add tire chains like one does when using a regular lawn tractor. I've tried using normal lawn tractors (2-wheel drive) and Zero-turn mowers which simply don't work nearly as well as the 4-Wheel Drive X739. In the nine years / 650+ hours I operated my first X739... I had No Issues. It worked as it should every time I sat on the seat! Couldn't have been more pleased!!! I truly expect my new one to do the same. :-) The John Deere X739 is "My Go To" lawn tractor!!! Thanks... Andy

Great for hills and complex terrain

5/5

A couple years ago my professional mower guy quit because my property is too hilly and difficult to mow (he was using professional zero turns). I bought and then sold a couple different lawnmowers that struggled or were dangerous on the hills. Then after many, many hours of research I found out about the X739 and bought it. Everyone who uses it on my property raves about it. People look forward to mowing my property now. I think this mower needs a better marketing campaign because it took me a long time and several expensive mistakes before I found out about it. Four-wheel drive plus four-wheel steer is what you need if you have hills and complicated areas with trees or other obstacles to mow around. My only regret is not buying it sooner. I've heard that some people skip this to just buy a subcompact tractor instead. I have a compact tractor already, they are completely different machines. This is all about agility, which tractors lack.

Loud in cab, cruise defect

3/5

4 wheel steer and 4wd is awesome. Very disappointed with the noise in the JD cab. Almost unbearable without hearing protection at high idle. I would expect a warning decal for hearing protection requirements. Cruise is nice to lock speed. However, if you lock the speed at mid throttle max pedal stroke and then quickly speed up the engine it will break the mechanism every time. Significant design flaw as the hydro try’s to de-stroke when rpm is rapidly increased.

Great To Look At - Expensive not Durable

3/5

I have owned the X739 series Tractor since 2021. The Tractor now has 144 hours. Since new a number of the plastic pieces have required replacement. The shield over the power flow drive belt, black vent on top of the green hood. The grass chute rubs on the side of the tractor and wears off the paint. The rubber step behind the drive pedals rattles. Now the mower deck sounds like a spindle, pulley, or gear box has failed. There is a loud grinding noise when engaged. I had a 20 year old Gt 235 before this new unit. The first spindle on the mower deck failed after 19 years. So I cannot recommend the X739. I would have been better off buying a Big Box JD Tractor and selling it every two years.

Not the John Deere Quality I'm used to...

2/5

Purchased a new 2019 x739 60"HC back in 2019, now at around 170hrs. Serviced at all recommended intervals by dealer. I mow 5+ acres, use front broom too. The mower deck idler pulley grenaded around 80 hours due to bearing failure, non greasable. Scratched the heck out of the deck when it happened too. Now that I'm just outside of warranty the engine is leaking coolant only when it gets cold, appears to be coming from the engine and not any of the hoses. Engine also clicks at idle like a fan is touching a shroud, dealer looked at several times, replaced parts, but not joy. Warranty is good while you have it. Machine has worked for me otherwise, but my cheap Lowe's John Deere D170 outperformed this unit when comparing hour to hour usage. The D170 from Lowes went 200hrs on same property without issue. I would try the diesel version instead but JD doesn't make a 4 wheel drive 4 wheel steer diesel model! Why is that?

Outstanding Machine

5/5

The 2024 John Deere X739 I took delivery of in early 2023 is outstanding. The tractor handled leaf clean up via mowing the leaves and using a sweeper really well. We have a very hilly lawn and the power and stability of the machine has been great so far. I have put 6 hours on the machine with the 60 inch blade plowing snow on a slight uphill grade and so far so good. I am really impressed. I would recommend the blade when considering the blower, I don't regret my decision to only get the blade. A blower would have been nice to only widen a few areas. The all-wheel steer and 4wd have worked outstanding and really needed the all-wheel steer mowing/leaf clean-up and the 4wd has been a game changer in snow. I should add I have the weight bracket and 6 weights on the back.

I bought this X739 about three months ago was delivered about 11/15/2023 the day after the dropped it off it had a coolant leak I took pictures, it was allot I called the dealer they said they would send some one to fix it. when he came he was not prepared to fix it on site so I called the dealer and with much difficulty I got them to take it back to the shop to fix it. they had it about ten days and they put about two hours on the engine and when the returned after a day it still leaked and the reserve coolant level was almost empty so I went to Minot ND Gooseneck Implement and bought 1gal of premix cool gard 2 coolant Wb203 18.23 /19.60 with tax on 12/2/23 and filled the reserve, now I have less than Ten hours on the X739 and have filled the reserve twice! and it was still leaking yesterday 02/11/24 when I checked! I have had several other issues, some of them they fixed and others are still uncertain! The dealer is Valley Plains Equipment, Jamestown ND.

Over all we’re pretty happy with the machine. We bought it nearly 3 months ago. My only complaint is the insane price of the cab… we’ll be exploring other cab options for our next unit.

it has been a great mower but it may be my last.

3/5

I purchased my X739 in May of 2020. It is the 3rd one I have purchased over the years. It has a 60 inch HC deck. Belt broke on deck at 4 hours. It was replaced under warranty. However this year I had it serviced at my local dealer and they said it needed a spindle and bearing on the deck. 800.00 to repair and not covered under warranty per the dealer. I looked up my warranty paper and it states x700 mowers are warrantied for 4 years or 700 hours. Dealer told me that it wasnt covered. I sent the service department the paper I received when I purchased the mower that states the mower and the implements/attachments are covered same as mower if purchased at the same time. Dealer told me that it is only covered for 2 years. I am. not satisfied with their decision and the warranty is not very clear.

Heavy Duty Cutting Machine X739

5/5

This is my 4th John Deere Mower/Garden Tractor and the Best one yet! I’ve owned a GT235, X500 and X530 before purchasing this X739. I purchased the X739 a year ago and figured it was a good time to write a review. I must say this machine is a heavy duty built machine! I mow 2 acres of grass and it cuts so effortlessly and does a great job with the 54” deck. It rides so smooth and turns sharp making it easy to go around the trees on my property. I have a long ditch on one side of the property and this beast with the 4 wheel drive allows me to mow sideways along the deep slope with ease (it wasn’t so easy with my X530). I would recommend this machine for anyone looking for a heavy duty all wheel-4 wheel drive Garden Tractor. The only downside was the cost & a little heavy on fuel.

Our yard is very hilly, and a 2-wheel drive mower just couldn't handle it. The X739 is wonderful and very stable, where mowing with a 2-wheel drive mower was a white-knuckle affair.

New x739

4/5

This is my first 700 series tractor. I have no complaints with it so far. There was a few slight hiccups with the 60" deck. The belt came off a few times when I first got it, and the spring for the schute wasn't tight, so the belt rubbed a hole through the side when connected to the powerflo. Other than those few minor details, the tractor has worked great.

I LOVE THIS TRACTOR

5/5

after my 20 year old john deere lawn mower gave out with over 750+ hours on it i had to consider buying another lawn mower. i looked for a couple of weeks and my lawn kept on growing. i finally decided to go for the top line mower. boy am i glad i did. this machine is a beast, it mows even tall grass with little effort. in fact i used to bag all my mowing. with this new mower i only bag about 1/4 of the same acreage that i did previously, and with a larger deck size i have cut my mowing time by about 1/3 per week. looking forward to adding attachments this winter to help out on my property

Great X739

5/5

This lawn tractor fits my bill. I bought it for the following reasons: 1) It is the largest 700:series while still having a gas engine. 2) It has 4 wheel steering, which was important to me because I have a number of trees to mow around 2) The final reason was that it is 4 wheel drive. This is important because of the terrain in my yard and when it snows. I previously had an x590, which was still a good tractor, but the x739 picks up the slack, where the x590 fell short. Runs great, turns great, mower deck cuts great, a responsive tractor and it climbs the grade in my backyard easily. Very pleased with the x739.

Overall a nice tractor to mow with. Wish it had a better air filter, the round canister type found on most other JD tractors. It would have been better with the diesel engine, even if that required a ROPS. Only first year ownership, we'll have to wait to see about reliability.

If you have any hilly terrain to mow , this is the best option. I’ve owned a 354, a 570, a 730, and now the 739. By far the best of the bunch! In my opinion the X700 series is the best all around garden tractor, so many attachments to choose from.

Great versatile tractor

5/5

The x739 is a great tractor overall. The design for changing out the attachments is very well thought out and very intuitive, fast and easy. The 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel power steering on the x739 are worth every penny. The turning radius is very tight with 4 wheel steering and doesn't shred the lawn when you turn tight like it does with a z-turn. The front snowthrower attachment (mine is a 47 inch shaft drive) is very well made, commercial quality. Also love the 4 way hydraulic take offs which allow you to raise/lower the snowthrower as well as adjust the chute direction. I would recommend getting a bagger for the mower, especially if you've used commercial z-turn mowers in the past. It cuts great but the blade speeds are not quite up to that level. Overall we love this and have no qualms about giving it the highest marks across the board.

Her’s and his

5/5

My wife could not operate a zero turn mower. She tried a 739 with no problems. It has a steering wheel and a gas pedal. The first year she mowed with the 739 and a 60” deck while I used the 1025R and a 60” bottom mower deck. She was mowing circles around me. Took me almost twice as long to mow the same amount of area. This year we purchased our (mine) second 739. We’re mowing 3 separate previous farm lots. Two are approximately 5 acres each. The third is 3 acres. We run both mowers at full throttle. We use about 1.2 gallons per acre each and about 3/4 gallons per hour. Our speed varies with the terrain, wetness, and height of the grass. The 739 is perfect for the steep slope hills and ditch banks. We’ve each gotten stuck once. A zero turn not could not handle the steep grades. For what they do, I do not think the fuel consumption is excessive. You get what you pay for. You want a tough mower to do a tough job? This is it.

Top Shelf

5/5

Over the years, I have owned 322, 445, x585, x729 and now an x739. All have been rugged, reliable, and great products. Each newer model was more refined then the prior. I had lawns of more than 1 acre, snow blowing, garden tilling, etc. and these tractors all performed. 5 years ago, I moved to a warmer area, bought a zero turn mower. I realized this was a mistake as it easily tore up the sod in the soft clay soil when turning. In 2019, I decided to replace the x729 that I sold when I moved and bot x739 which superceeded the x729. The full time 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steer is the best. The x739 is major overkill for my current needs but worth the price because the doies not destroy my lawn. The 739 is a highly refined machine and a pleasure to use..I added the mulching kit and mulch the my lawn cuttings and a power flow bagger unit which takes the work out of clearing the fall leaves. All my John Deere tractors were trouble free during the 5-14 years I owned each of them. So far, the X739 has also been trouble free and easy to maintain. I highly recommend this product..It is in a class of its own,.with its power steering, 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steer, automotive style instrument panel, dual hydrualics, smooth hydrostatic drive, and its twin cylinder fuel injected water cooled engine.

I have had my X739 for about a year now and absolutely love it! The only negative thing I can say about it is that it is a little hard on fuel consumption. I can live with that for all great thing it does! The 4 wheel drive and all wheel steering are amazing. I plow snow with it and it goes threw the snow with ease. (no need for chains). Mowing is so comfortable that I look forward to it! I would highly recommend this tractor to anyone looking for a elite lawn and garden tractor that will last them for many many many years!

So far so good

5/5

My X739 is coming up on 100 hours. It's been cutting my 1-1/2 acre portion of grass that barely has a flat section anywhere. Lots of areas where the AWD is needed and never lets me down. Its a large mower that steers around all my obstacles nearly like my previous zero-turn, and can get in to surprisingly tight areas. I added the rear PTO for a 48" rough-cut mower, which now gets used on a newer 2025R. However, it will get used when I start rototilling a large garden. As others have mentioned, this is not an inexpensive unit, but well worth it for the amount of demand I will place on it for many, many years to come. I see this tractor as being a rock-solid tool to help me maintain all of the many acres I will want to work on going forward.

3 year review. What a Great Machine!!!

5/5

I bought my X739 in 2018. I wanted to wait to give a review until the newness of the machine wore off and give a review based on experience. I have a 54 inch high capacity deck with a mulch kit, a powered 14 bushel bagger system and auto connect. I will be gett a snowblower in the future when the budget permits. I have just under 2 acres to mow, I live in the mountains lots of trees and not much flat ground. I was growing to resent the place I live because with my previous lawn mower I was spending about 8 hours a week mowing my lawn. The X739 will mow it in about 2-3 hours...Amazing!! The machine is a treat to drive, does not beat me up where as before I needed to go to the chiropractor after I mowed the lawn. I have had absolutely no mechanical issues in 3 years. I love to work on it, ie change the fluids, oil, hydraulic fluid etc...because its so Simple and there is a Youtube video of super nice people showing everyone how to do it (how cool is that). It is expensive but this machine has given me so much of my spring, summer and fall back! I whole heartily recommend the X739.

A Premium Machine in all Respects

5/5

I've owned my x739 for one year now. At first, I worried that I should have skipped the 4WS and bought the diesel for more torque. No regrets now. This machine is a billy goat mowing steep hills and brambles, has power to spare, and looks and rides like the premium machine it is. Before purchasing, I test drove the 300 and 500 series. After I climbed on the 700 series, I never looked back. It simply in a class by itself in terms of ride, quality feel, and performance. With its wide stance, mag wheels, and overall performance look, it reminds me of a fine sports car. I smile every minute I'm on it. I live on a hilly property with lots of fir and oak trees. The x739 with its 4WS is incredibly maneuverable. I can't imagine going back to a conventional mower. I also have a 1025R and I would not ever take it on some of these slopes, not matter how slow or careful. But with the x739, the stance is so wide and stable that there is never a feeling that the machine will tip or lose traction and I hit these hills fast and with little concern.. It's got lots of power. I've used it to drag fallen trees, tow a DR leave mulching machine, and tow a harrow in our horse arena. The AWD is essential on hills and I no longer have a pucker factor on steep descents. Yes, it's expensive, but it's probably the last mower you will ever buy and you will be glad you made the investment every time you use it. I only have two complaints. The 54" drive over deck is tricky to put on and take off. I have yet to get good at it. And I invested in the hydraulic mulch control, but the design is not as sturdy as it should be and it is tricky to keep adjusted. I've since stopped using it.

Best all around lawn mower made

5/5

Over the years I have owned many different models of this type starting with the x575. Currently own a 2010 x729 with over 2000hrs on it. No engine or hydro issues. A 2017 x739 with 600 hrs and no problems. Both used for mowing and snow removal. Does a nice job mowing and in the snow they are better than can be explained. With either a snow plow , snow blower or snow broom, they handle the job with ease. These types of mowers may cost more at the start, but keep their value for years to come. In my opinion they are one of the best engineered pieces of equipment made by anyone.

Great combination of features!

5/5

I have owned many John Deere products over the years, Tractors, Gators and a 445 Riding Mower that lasted me 24 years. When the 4 wheel steer and 4WD came out on this unit I knew it was time to trade. Engine power is fine and it mowes thick grass with ease. The turning radius is not as tight as a zero turn but is way better than the vast majority of riders on the market. I use this lawn tractor for other things as well and it handles all jobs with relative ease. I miss the gauges on my 445, digital is fine but not as user friendly as the actual guages. The rider belt pulleys are way easier to clean out than the older models. The pulley guards do tend to rattle when mowing though. All in all, a great lawn tractor for the money....even though it is not cheap, you certainly get what you pay for!

The Best

This is my 5th JD. All were very good tractors but the x739 is the most refined of all. Even the little like draining the engine oil has been solved(probably will retrofit older models}. Wheels, seat, instrument panel, and mower leveling, are a big step up from older models as well. It is clear that JD listened to the feedback and worked to improve and refine this product. This is a tough tractor and will provide years of trouble free service.

Great Unit

5/5

My 739 is an excellent machine. I bought it new in 2016 and have 680 trouble free hours on it. I have owned a 700, 730, 738, and this 739 over the years. My only complaint was the 700 was under powered and only BIG complaint I have is the oil drain plug is difficult to get at. I mow 5 acres weekly as well as plow snow each winter with no difficulty. The Kawasaki engine is strong and smooth and runs effortlessly with the 60 inch Ironman Deck. The optional front fenders are a must in keeping your deck clean as the auto 4 wheel drive will kick up debris. My 739 was ordered with the air ride seat as I have had many back surgeries and it really helps the ride. I just ordered a new 758 with the 60 inch H/C Deck with auto connect. I went the 758 over 739 for the diesel engine as it is hard for me to fill tank and this should help economy. Looked at the 1 series and actually could have bought it cheaper. I did not like the height of the fuel fill and the center of gravity on side hills vs. the 700 series. The turning radius was horrible compared to my unit. The only thing Deere could do to improve this Ultimate Series Tractor is to offer the 758 in 4 x 4 in a All Wheel Steer.

Love this machine! Purchased new after giving up on an orange machine pos. I have the 54" HC deck w/snow blower attachment, 17p trailer and just purchased the 14 bu bagger setup with the powerflow attachment. This can handle whatever I throw at it. It will cut down drain fields with 2' high wild grass with zero issues! detaching the deck or switching from summer to winter is a snap and done in under 5 minutes attaching the blower setup. Good base but needs to be available in R series with all options on it

4/5

So car great mower, purchased this in lieu of a zero turn. We have steep hills and rough mowing terrain and the 4x4 steer and all time 4x4 drive fit the requirements perfectly. I will say to John Deere that if I e is going to pay 15k for this mower make it an R series with all the options on it and put an air ride seat on the beast. Cub cadet has you beat there. Also this needs to be offered with the 7 iron deck as well. A high low on the hydro as well. My old 1985 430 had more features but lacked 4x4 steer and drive, that was the only reason for purchase. We go heavy and rough farm mowing on 3 different places as well as finish yard mow and I would give this machine 7/10.

Pros

  • luxury
  • turn radius
  • traction

Cons

  • needs heavier deck option
  • rougher ride on farm mowing

To Much Plastic!

3/5

Purchased my X739 three years ago. I have 600+ hours on it now. My dealer does a great job with repairs for me. I use it for mowing, tilling, snow blowing, garden work, and spraying on 10 acres so it has hard use. The parking controls wore out, seat shaft wore out, adjustable mulch kit wore out, battery replaced, etc. mostly at my expense I replaced my adjustable mulch kit with a solid kit which works much better. It has some great features and the 4 wheel drive/steering is great. Not near as rugged as my 425 AWS. Deere added some great features but cheapened some of it up. Needs to be more rugged for a top of the line garden tractor.

Pros

  • great features

  • not rugged enough!

This is my second x739, this tractor fills all my needs and in my opinion is the best tractor of this size on the market. I would like to respond to those complaining about the location of the oil drain nut , all you need is a 10 mm socket and extension and you can get to the nut by going right into the front of the tractor onto the nut . I do agree it is poor engineering, also I can not only mow but also stripe four acres of lawn in two hours on a half tank of gas. Finally to the person commenting on the power steering being too loose , I think you'll find it is because of the four wheel steering that is letting your tractor turn so easy that it feels loose which is what I notice when I'm going down the road to mow another lawn. I hope this helps those that are lucky enough to own a x739.

This is my 4th JD AWS tractor and they keep getting better. This X739 with 54" deck leaves my lawn smooth as table top. I just removed the drive over mower deck and that feature makes changing to winter mode easier than ever. Yes, a little expensive but well worth it IMO.

I had a zero turn that left rings around trees and bare spots at 90 degree turns!! Not any more ! I choose a 48 inch deck because of yard features and its none cut circle is about the size of a garbage can lid. also got air ride seat and its worth the price!! But the seat needs a little lateral stabilizer because it tends to lean over on hills! The mower can not be compaired to anything on the market!

What a great mowing machine. Coupled with the high capacity mower deck, you can tackle most heavy mowing jobs. I also purchased the 54" front blade to push snow and move dirt. Works great and would advise to purchase the rubber squeegee to push snow. It works great on all surfaces to push snow!!! I would highly recommend this mower to about anyone!!

Reliable with great Dealer Service

4/5

Have owned John Deere mowers since 1976... never even consider another brand. Our previous mower was the X729 Ultimate - an excellent mower. Just purchased the X739 4x4 Wheel Steer with the Mulch Kit. It may be even more economical to run fuel-wise than the X729. The seat is a nice upgrade also, and especially the easy, no-hands dismount and remount of the mower deck. Plus, the deck mows much more level than the X729 Ultimate. FYI, the Mulch Kit was difficult to mount by the JD Dealer - the metal work wasn't curved correctly and a hole was mis-punched. Also, I struggle to understand how an educated engineer would design the oil petcock location so difficult to get to and then to un-screw... so the oil could be drained.

Pros

  • reliable with great dealer service

Cons

  • extremely hard to unscrew the oil petcock

"Best for us so far!"

5/5

We started with a 277 model and loved it, then we graduated to the 300 series, next an x500 and we just upgraded this year to an X739. The 4 wheel steer and 4x4 features are amazing! It turns so sharp that the first time my wife tried it, she almost fell off the tractor. My question is why would you need a zero turn when this machine turns a 6" radius? We mow 4 acres and the X739 compared to the X500 cuts the mowing time from 4 hours to 2.5 hours. My ONLY negative comment would be the gas usage. We could mow the 4 acres with the X500 with about 4 gallons of gas, this machine uses 6-7 gallons. But it is worth it as it is built like a mini tank!

  • see above?

  • gas usage

Great ergonomics and easy to operate

4/5

I have been operating large lawn tractors and medium duty tractors for many years of my life. I traded in my X500 with attachements for a X739 because I wanted a "Beast" of a lawn tractor. The X739 is definitely that, a beast. I got the 47" snow blower as well. I used my X500 year round and am looking forward to a nasty snow fall next year so I can really test th 4x4 drive system. However, when the X739 was delivered right off of the truck I noticed a "grinding" sound coming from the front left wheel. The tractor currently has 2.2 hours on it and is in the shop. John Deere states that everything is working to spec and the noise should "go away". That does not solve the problem if you ask me. I believe that a tractor that is considered "The best of the best" should not make noises like that.

Best lawn tractor ever

5/5

I have about 4 acres evenly split between front and rear. Very hilly and the rear is covered with trees. I purchased this tractor last month with snow blade and several other attachments. I was concerned about the amount I was spending, but after getting the first chance to mow, every dollar is vindicated. This is without doubt the best mower ever. It's powerful, easy to operate and really tough. The four wheel drive and steering is fantastic, it cuts beautifully and really fast. No hill was too much and handled beautifully. Very comfortable. I guess my only comment would be the power steering is, perhaps too light. Thank you John Deere

The drive over Drive over deck for this mower is not perfected and leaves the yard looking bad.

2/5

I have used Deere mowers for many years and wanted a new mower but am disappointed in the drive over deck. The dealer has made several adjustments but to date none have worked. This deck leaves the yard looking very uneven cutting. The dealer replaced the drive over deck with the old style deck and this one mows even but doesn't have the suction power of the drive over and leaves lots of fluff in the yard. I wonder if it is the tractor or the deck. Hopefully Deere will figure it out soon. The handling of the tractor itself seems good it mows around trees and trims very well I just wish the deck did a better job.

My third X700 series tractor

5/5

I had a X728, a X729 for two years and just received my 2015 X739 today. I traded my X729 for a 1026r, but it was way too much tractor for my use so I went back to the X739 which I really love. The only problem I have is this. I'm wondering if John Deere engineers sit around a table and go "lets think of something that would really upset as many customers as possible". So they make it pretty much impossible for customers to change the oil them selves. They put the oil drain petcock in a place that is pretty much impossible to get too. NICE JOB BOYS!!!

Traded a 2010 X360 John Deere with about 250 hours for the X739. Have used JD products for about 30 years starting out with 185 Hydro using it for many years. The X739 is way too much tractor for my mowing needs but not for what I need for snowblowing. It is a beast. It amazes me how much snow it will handle all with no chains necessary. It is an expensive tractor but the quality and ease of operation make it worthwhile. I also have the powerflow collection 3 bag system.that works great. My 54" mower deck was set up perfectly which says volumes about the set-up people at the John Deere shop. Great people Sales to Set-up.

Outstanding quality, utility, comfort and value.

5/5

In early 2013 I purchased the X749 diesel 54" all-wheel drive with rear wheel steerage. I also got the 48" hydraulic-drive rototiller. I currently have 115 hours of operating time. Following are my observations: - Fuel efficiency: I am able to complete 3 mowings (~2 1/2 acres) on one tank of fuel (~6 gallons) - vs. my old 240 gas mower of one tank / mowing. Cut mowing time from 3 1/2 hours to 2 hours. - Utility: This machine has a mowing turn radius of ~10 inches. I have many trees on hilly land. With all-wheel drive I am able to make a single sweep around the tree without ripping up grass, even on damp grass. - Tiller: This goes on/off with ease (my remove the mowing deck first) and really works well. The tiller will drop (my setting) 8 inches and the X749 has the power to easily till at a reasonable speed. - Leave Collection: I had purchased a Cyclone Rake (awesome product btw) for my for 240. I re-adpated to the X749 / deck and it performs flawlessly. A full load on the CR weighs ~450 lbs. On side hills the old 240 would have a problem. This machine barely feels it! - Comfort: This machine is heavy the ensuring a good ride. I wear a pair of Sony noise reduction head phones. Sure-footed and quiet!

4/5

I have had my X739 for just over a year. I use it for maintaining a 16 acre property. Tasks include mowing, snow removal, general landscaping and for moving my large utility trailers around the property. I had my share of problems during the first year including hydraulic leaks and breakage of plastic parts, all taken care of under warranty. I believe that too many things are made of plastic with this upgrade and are not as durable as they should be, but overall one tough and useful tractor.

The best Deere tractor I have owned yet!

5/5

This is my 5th JD garden tractor dating back to the 80's and by far the most advanced and easy to use. I live on a lake lot with a fairly steep slope and need to mow cross ways. On my GX345 I would slide up on the edge of the seat and not feel uncomfortable about tipping so I had concerns about the 739 because it sits higher. Because of the wider width I actually don't even need to slide over on the seat any longer and with the 4 wheel drive there is no need to use the differential lock as I had to do often on my 345 which tended to leave marks in the grass if it was even slightly damp. I am really impressed with the lack of scalping on a hillside and how well the 4 wheel drive works as others had mentioned. I purchased the front blade for snow removal and will review later this winter when I have a chance to use it. My only neutral comments would be that the machine is loud when using the mower deck but then there are a lot of blades to spin and I use the mulch option. Also it seems that the fuel tank could be larger as I can't go near as long on a tank of gas as the 345, again a lot more motor and deck on the 739. At this point I can't ever imagine needing to buy another Deere tractor, not sure what they could improve except for maybe a larger gas tank and that sure isn't worth buying another tractor.

Pros

  • great stability on slopes
  • 4 wheel drive system

Cons

  • gas tank not large enough

Waited way too long to buy an x739

5/5

Used a LA175 for four years mowing 3 acres, and while it did OK, its mowing speed made the task take way too long, and it didn't do a good job at 4 inch height. Finally decided to upgrade, and the quality of the LA175 meant only a Deere would do. The X739 gets the whole yard done in between half and 2/3 of the time. It mows better - evenly, smooth looking - at 4 inches than anything I've ever seen. At 4 inches it looks manicured. Beautiful. The 4wd and 4ws are amazing. We have a fairly steep hill on part of the yard and this barely slows down when cutting up the hill. The 4ws is so effective I have to remind myself to slow down a bit for tight corners to keep from flying off the seat. Some reviewers say that they've had scalping problems. The first two times I mowed, none. The third and fourth time I had scalping when mowing around trees. I figured it out - with 4ws, you can cut tightly around that tree so fast that the tractor compresses the springs on the outside and leans out - causing that scalping. I slowed down ever so little when cutting around the trees and now no scalping. It's not a problem with the tractor, it's physics and a very capable steering and traction system. One huge gripe - the oil drain valve is in a location that's almost impossible to get to. Completely surrounded by tubes and hoses, so much so it's actually hard to see. Couldn't get to it with a socket, a crescent, or with an articulated socket extension. The only way I could get to it was to go buy the tiniest socket wrench I've ever seen, and when it's on the valve I have about 2 inches of handle movement available. Changing oil should not be hard. The other smaller gripe is that the seat is up so high that I can't reach the on/off handle on my Deere spreader. Having to use barbecue tongs to get the extra reach. Going to have to fab an extension. Yes, the X739 is expensive. But the performance is incredible. By my math, the time I save is worth the cost.

Pros

  • fast work of mowing
  • mows 4 inch flawlessly
  • comfortable
  • powerful

Cons

  • oil change an ordeal
  • too tall for spreader

Doesn't mow well, uses too much gas

2/5

I bought this X739 to be a snow blower and a lawn mower. I got the 60 inch, auto connect deck. The mowing deck bounces so much that it leaves a very uneven cut. This is due to a poorly designed deck mounting system. Also, when the deck is all the way up, the rear wheels hit the deck when making a moderate to tight turn. It now takes 6 gallons of gas to mow my 3-1/2 acres instead of the 2 that it used to take. I got wheel weights to use when I snow blow, but they do not fit the wheels. The dealer has tried, but so far Deere has not responded with a solution. Don't buy this to be a lawn mower. Don't buy this if you will need wheel weights.

I have 2 acres of grass to cut which includes 350 feet of lakefront, a tough stream to cross, and plenty of split rail fence. Over the years I have had 2 orange commercial front mounts, a 31 HP orange zero turn, and even a Toro Sidewinder which is an amazing machine. Honestly, I can say the X739 is much better than all of them. Deere knocked this one out of the park. Cuts so evenly Very fast mowing speed and little bouncing around Incredible trimming accuracy and nearly rotates A blast to use Comfortable and quiet Doesn't tear up the grass Built to last a long time I bought the snow blower and can't wait to use it. I will post a video of that.

Amazing Machine

5/5

I just upgraded from an x534 to an x739 and the difference is night and day. I had numerous issues with my x534 despite it having less than 60 hours on it. The build quality of the x739 is substantial, you can really feel it when you sit on the machine and even moreso when you are mowing. Is it cheap to buy, absolutely not but with proper maintenance this machine should last 15-20 years or more. I am extremely happy with the decision to upgrade. If anyone is trying to choose between an x5 series and an x7 series, in my opinion it's definitely worth spending the extra money to get a much more capable and reliable machine.

Only regret I didn't buy it sooner!

I wish that I had bought it several years ago! This thing has made my lawn work fun again. I have a two acre lot that has some slopes and a variety of obstacles to contend with. My time spent mowing has been reduced to 2 hours from the former 5 to 6 it used to take! I'm not exhausted after mowing anymore! Yes, it's kind of spendy but what's your time worth? It's so easy to use compared to my former rig and I can easily see the difference in quality and sturdiness. Very satisfied so far after 5 mows and looking forward to finding more uses for it. And it does a great job with the mow. The lawn has never looked better.

This JD is employed in KY on a steep large lot with a lot of trees, gardens, and other obstructions to go around. The HP is required for the lot. In the spring we have a section that floods. In the winter we have lots snow to plow and a 300 foot sloping driveway. The hydraulics work very well on the plow - rise and side to side. The deck is quick to rise and lower. Outstanding Product

A John Deere is something you do not purchase every year. My current John Deere is a 212 model purchased in 1983 and still performs great. The folks in Horicon, Wisconsin built my X739 just like it supposed to be, operational sound and a great finish. Let me speak about a quality product. If a product is not built with quality, you can not improve on product with care and maintenance. You must start with quality in order to maintain it. Yes, quality cost upfront but I would not have it any other way. Looking for years of great service. Glen Musick, Smithfield

I love my X739 with One Caveat

4/5

My X739 is exactly what I expected. Easy to start. Easy to use. Excellent power. Excellent gas milage. I would expect no less. It’s a John Deere. The auto-connect deck is the cat's meow. I love the styling, the dash lay-out and the hood scoop. Unfortunately, I can’t rate the mower a 5 because I can’t get the 60HC mower deck to cut exactly like I want. I have tried mowing at several different heights and setting the scalping wheels at several different settings. I’ve checked the tire pressure and mower level several times. However, the mower continues to cut uneven around trees and when I turn sharply. Knowing the quality of the mower, I’m almost certain it’s something I’m doing, but its driving me crazy. I’d give the machine a 4.7 now and would easily rate it a 5+ if I could just get the deck to perform the way it should. My local dealership is very helpful, but they don’t know the answer to the uneven cutting.

Ultra High Performance!

5/5

This is my third JD in 15 years. Last year I had a X534 and traded it in on the 739. It appears that the all wheel steer is easier on the grass despite the more aggressive tire tread. Because of all the traction and power I had no difficulty pushing my 22' pontoon back into the lake on dry ground with no rollers. Also moved my new 10'x12' shed without a struggle. The 54" deck can cut thick wet and tall grass with no problem. The best cut quality I have ever experienced. Love how the injected engine starts in less than a second every time. I have the 3 pt.pto for a chipper and log splitter coming soon. Also appreciate the benefit of the 4 wheel drive when having my Jonny Bucket loaded down. Expensive yes, top of the line quality never comes cheap. Love the X739!
