The 22-hp (16.4-kW) V-twin engine used in the S220 Tractor provides plenty of power and torque to handle tough mulching, mowing, and bagging conditions:

  • V-twin cylinder design for greater torque, lower vibration, and improved sound quality
  • Large, 44.2-cu in. (724-cc) displacement
    • Plenty of torque helps to get the job done fast.
    • Large displacement engine increases the ability to get an even cut without mowing a second time.
    • Camshaft and carburetor designs create the optimum torque rise for rapid response to varying load conditions.
  • Electronic ignition for fast starts
  • Cast-iron sleeves for longer engine life
  • Overhead valves for excellent power and fuel economy
  • Full-pressure lubrication and oil filter for keeping the oil cleaner for a long engine life and extending the time between oil changes; full-pressure lubrication is also more effective when operating the tractor on an incline
  • Excellent serviceability with easily replaced air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter and a convenient oil-drain hose to make draining the oil easy and clean

Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck

The 42-in. (107-cm) Accel Deep Mower Deck is a stamped-steel, deep, flat-top design that delivers excellent cut quality, productivity, cleanliness, durability, and versatility. Optimal performance and dispersion of clippings is provided, even at faster mowing speeds or in tall grass:

  • 4.97-in. (12.6-cm) depth throughout the entire deck shell for optimum mowing, mulching, and bagging performance
    • Optional MulchControl™ system provides superior mulching performance and versatility
  • Stamped-steel design eliminates sharp edges and corners where material can build up and diminish mowing performance
  • Mower deck suspended from the vehicle for a smooth and level cut
    • Adjustable mower wheels, positioned just above ground level, help reduce scalping
  • 0.25-in. (6.4-mm) cut-height increments allow the mower to be set at the desired cut height
  • Compatible with efficient 6.5-bu (229-L) two-bag material collection system
Excellent cut quality
42A Mower Deck top 42A Mower Deck top
42A Mower Deck underside 42A Mower Deck underside

Deep mower-deck stamping gives excellent cut quality. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck without getting recut:

  • Reducing the amount of recutting enables more power to be used to cut incoming grass, which greatly improves mower capacity.
    • Helps maintain excellent cut quality at faster mowing speeds
  • Clean flow of material out of discharge area prevents cut material from interfering with cutting the incoming grass, making it possible for the blades to cut incoming material cleanly.
  • Even in mulching mode, cut evenness is improved compared to other designs because the additional depth allows for continuous circulation, optimal recutting, and an even distribution of clippings.
Productivity - gets the job done fast

Right side of Accel Deep mower deck Right side of Accel Deep mower deck

Deep mower-deck stamping gives high productivity, which gets the job done fast. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck quickly, reducing the amount of recutting so more power is available to process incoming grass:

  • Greatly improves mowers capacity to maintain excellent mowing performance in difficult mowing conditions and at higher speeds

Large discharge opening is both high and wide to handle more material:

  • Gives a smooth, even discharge of clippings at all mowing speeds
  • Reduces the chance of plugging, especially important when operating in wet, thick, or dense grass and when bagging
  • Cut-and-throw chute has a large, optimized inlet which aids in collecting material by using airflow from the large deck opening
Cleanliness - for the mower and the operator
Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck
Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck

The flat-top shape of the deck stamping is optimal for keeping itself and the operator clean:

  • There are few places to catch and hold material on top and underneath the deck.
    • Top of deck stays cleaner, reducing time and effort needed for cleaning and service
    • Underside of deck is self-cleaning to maintain optimum performance without buildup of material to interfere with the flow of air and clippings
    • Less need to clean and remove buildup of material from underside deck
  • The depth of the Accel Deep mower deck minimizes the amount of material that escapes from the front of the deck
    • Limited amount of material to drift onto the operator and mower deck
    • Even flow of material discharged out the chute, less recutting results in larger pieces that are less likely to end up on the operator
    • Mulching prevents the discharge of material completely and MulchControl makes mulching a practical solution for most mowing situations.

Cleaning a mower deck, both top and bottom, is one of the most frequent maintenance activities:

  • The flat-top design reduces places for material to build up and makes material that does collect easy to remove.
Mower wash port Mower wash port

Mower deck wheels are double captured for durability Mower deck wheels are double captured for durability

The 42A Mower Deck has strong spindle pockets, to keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough service:

  • Ribs in the deck shell add strength where it is needed.
  • The 42A has a 16 percent heavier overall weight than the Edge™ Xtra 42-in. (107-cm) Mower Deck.

Mower wheels are double captured:

  • Provides greater strength and durability for longer, trouble-free life.
  • Single-bolt adjustment makes setting wheels to the correct height for the cutting height quick and easy.

Low-tension belt-drive design reduces the side load on the engines lower bearing and mower deck bearings for longer life.

Rolled outer edge of the deck provides extra strength and protection.

Dual-stage E-coat and powder-paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.

Mower blades

High-lift bagging blades are included with the bagger chute. They provide optimum performance when bagging in difficult conditions, such as when the grass is moist, dense, or long:

  • High-lift bagging blades also work well when side discharging material.

Mulching blades are included with the optional MulchControl system. They can be used for mulching, side discharging, and bagging in most conditions.

The 42A Mower Deck is designed for maximum versatility, providing the greatest ease in changing from one mower discharge mode to another:

  • With an optional MulchControl system installed (along with the special mulching blades), changing from side discharging to mulching or vice versa is done with the simple flip of a lever or push of an electric switch.
  • The cut-and-throw rear bagger can be used with MulchControl by removing the rear MulchControl baffle (A) before installing the bagger chute. The baffle is held in place with two carriage bolts. To return to mulching, the chute needs to be removed and the baffle replaced.

48A MulchControl handle 48A MulchControl handle

The optional MulchControl system makes mulching more practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching, but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge or collect the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:

  • Creates a beautiful looking lawn
  • Smaller grass clippings disappear into the lawn canopy
  • Reduces fertilizer needs
  • Grass clippings are not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
  • No need to dispose of bags of clippings
How MulchControl works
MulchControl baffle closed (shown on X300 42A mower deck) MulchControl baffle closed (shown on X300 42A mower deck)
MulchControl baffle open (shown on X300 42A mower deck) MulchControl baffle open (shown on X300 42A mower deck)

MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:

  • The MulchControl system includes an adjustable MulchControl baffle near the discharge chute and fixed baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
  • The MulchControl handle is on top of the mower deck and is used to open and close the MulchControl baffle.
  • When the MulchControl baffle is open, most of the material flows freely out the discharge deflector or into a material collection system.
  • When the MulchControl baffle is closed, material stays within the deck and gets chopped into mulch and deposited in the turf.

MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:

  • For operators who usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
  • For operators who usually side discharge, but would like to close the chute to control clippings in some areas
  • For operators who always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns
  • For operators who collect clippings but want to go farther before emptying the material collection system

MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings.

MulchControl limitations

While in the side-discharge mode, MulchControl still mulches about one third of the material. Therefore, the side-discharge mode is essentially a partial-mulch mode. This can be an advantage when side discharging or bagging, as it helps to reduce the amount of material being discharged. Other times this could work as a disadvantage:

  • When cutting strong southern grasses, such as Zoysia and Bermuda
  • When cutting in wet, high-growth conditions, such as those found in the Pacific Northwest United States
  • When optimum bagging and lawn cleanup is desired

When bagging with MulchControl on a 48A mower deck, the MulchControl baffle can be opened or closed with the Power Flow™ blower installed. The Power Flow blower runs without material when the baffle is closed.

Rear baffle (A) must be removed for bagging with MulchControl with 42A mower decks Rear baffle (A) must be removed for bagging with MulchControl with 42A mower decks

When bagging with MulchControl on a 42A mower deck, the cut-and-throw rear bagger can be used with the MulchControl blades. However, the rear MulchControl baffle (A) needs to be removed to install the bagger chute. The baffle is held in place with two carriage bolts. To return to mulching, the chute needs to be removed and the baffle replaced.

MulchControl compatibility

Each MulchControl system is an optional field-installed attachment and includes everything needed for handle actuation: baffles, handle, and mulch blades.

Disappointed in some features for a John Deere

3/5

I purchased this mower 2 months ago and haven’t been that impressed with it. The mower has great steering & does mow pretty well. Some of the things I’m not happy with are the bagger system is kind of cheaply built lots of plastic grass gets stuck in bagger runners & the runners are plastic as is the frame around the top of the bags, the old bags had a metal runner & frame top. The worse part is when your mowing grass & leaves blow back on your left leg from under the deck, I can honestly sat your left leg is really dirty when u get done. The hood has an air vent on top of the hood this allows grass & other stuff to go in around the motor you’ll definitely have to blow it all out when you get done.. The shifter handle is very hard to move to different heights . The height settings by the handle are all black & difficult to read.. The other thing that doesn’t impress me is the drive pedal & reverse pedal are kind of close together making it little more difficult to grip into reverse because your foot could be pretty big.trying to go from drive to reverse. If it was up to me the engeers need to go back to the drawing board on this mower that’s for sure.

Excellent!!

5/5

So far, it's absolutely amazing! This is our 3rd John Deere Lawn Tractor in 20 years and so far this one is my favorite of them all. It's very comfortable sitting on, controls are easy to operate and reach, steering is very, very smooth and it's a powerful machine! If this machine gives me 600+ hours like my previous ones have (still have a D130 going strong with 671+ hours on it), I'll be very happy!

Time for a new one!

5/5

I bought my S-220 in early June. This is my 2nd Deere mower. My L-1118 has lasted 20 years and is still being used by a family member. The S-220 runs great and cuts excellent. I got the bagging system with it, and it works as well as the bagger on my L-118 . There is more plastic on this bagger but It is lighter and easier to remove the full bags because they just slide out on a track. So I don't mind the trade off. If the chute clogs up it is definitely harder to undue from the deck compared to my old mower. I have always been proactive on maintenance. And the payoff is a reliable machine even in old age. All in all a nice , solid machine.

Solid tractor for moderate duty applications

5/5

I recently purchased a rural home and needed a machine to mow just over an acre around the house. The land is mostly flat with a couple of very mild, gradual inclines so I didn’t feel that I needed to go for the most heavy duty machines on the market. I also didn’t feel that the most entry level machines would do the job to my satisfaction. I purchased the S220 brand new from the local John Deere dealer and having used it a few times so far, I can only say that I am very pleased with my purchase. This lawn tractor is exactly what I needed, and makes quick work of my mowing without any signs of struggling to do so. It is comfortable, easy to use, has plenty of power, cuts cleanly, maneuvers well, and seems to be pretty efficient as it doesn’t burn through nearly as much gas as I had expected it would. I also feel confident in having the service and maintenance accessibility offered through the local dealer, and the little tractor comes with a great warranty. I look forward to many years of service from my S220, and am confident that it will provide exactly that. After all… it is a John Deere.

Great cut

4/5

I love the mower and it’s cut but from day one the engine would surge badly. Dealer picked it up. Kept two weeks. Fixed it. Mowed. Great cut but twice backfires loudly when throttle down. Frustrating having issues like this on a mower with 5 hours on it.

5/5

I have now mowed three times with my new S220. Very pleased with the power and cut. It far surpasses the last two riders I had. They didn’t do well with a big hill on my property, but the S220 tackles it with little effort. The mulch kit was worth the money I spent. I guess, “ Nothing runs like a Deere”.

3/5

It squeels a lot. Sounds bad driving it, especially putting it in foward or reverse , even worse when engaging blades.. Only cut the grass one time, 1/3 acre. Hope it lasts. The water washing attachment doesn't let water through to clean it. Worried I got a lemon.

I bought this after my 1993 finally was on the down-turn ... that's 30 years of service with minimal repairs. The rebate helped to push us over the limit of our budget. My only wish is that the engage arm not be as noisy - but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

S200 SERIES BAGGER ASSEMBLY HAS A FATAL FLAW

1/5

I purchased this with a bagging system. They have modified the bagging system with a rubber skirt around the bottom of the lower chute. They used a very dry brittle rubber. Three of the 4 tabs have cracked in half, the 4th is well on its way to cracking in half. The dealership is telling me it's not a warrantied item that I hit something and caused this. first and foremost I did not hit anything. But let's say I did, how many of you have hit or snagged an obstacle while mowing? Should this skirt not with stand it. If you hit a hidden obstacle such as a small childs toy or say a stone or anything, this skirt should be able to withstand the hit. This skirt will never stop something. I am currently going to manufacture my own skirt out of 1/4" polyester fiber reinforced rubber and install it SHOULD JOHN DEERES FINAL DECISION IS NOT TO WARRANTY IT.

Good at mowing POOR fuelling

4/5

Happy with The machine, but John Deere has a big problem with how you get gas into the tank. If you have the bagger attachment on and you have to raise the seat there IS not enough room to pour the gas in. The bagger is close to the tank fill and you have to reach across the fender which is awkward. I’ve even tried a funnel but you can’t see how full you are because seat is bent forward so you can’t see gauge. Yes I have tried different gas cans to fuel and still spill gas.

Nice mower. Good ergonomics.

4/5

My wife really likes the mower - much more comfortable and easier on her back than our last few mowers. The only negative comment is that the seat adjustment lever was missing a bolt, so I was sliding back and forth until I found a bolt to fix it. The dealer ordered a new plate to replace the plate that got severely scratched from the back-and-forth movement. If not for the missing bolt, I would give 5 stars.

A good replacement for my old Sabre that lasted 15 years! It has a few more rattles than expected for a new machine, and I do not like the deck-height adjustment as well as the old machine. Also, the forward/reverse pedals are a bit grabby. But if it has the lasts like the last one, two thumbs up.

Don't buy the Bagger!!!!

1/5

I bought this mower and bagger a year ago and I must say that the bagger is absolutely the worst purchase I have ever made. While mowing the lawn I become covered from head to toe with dirt, dust and grass fragments. I've taken it in twice to be looked at and all I'm told is that it's too dry. They put a guard around the entrance to the bagger, which does not allow for movement and as a result the grass also cuts unevenly. This is the WORST equipment I have ever owned.

First use impressions: A good buy!

First cutting with a new S220 yesterday replacing my 18-year old (and very reliable) LT Craftsman. Cut about two acres of 6-8 inch tall pasture grass in just under two hours. Solid feeling machine. Lots of power for my needs. Comfortable seating for an operator cutting for such an lengthy time, in my opinion. Tight turning radius compared to my old Craftsman. First impressions all good enough to make me happy to have spent the bucks.

Terrible build quality

2/5

Wanted to buy the best of the best, but got disappointed after opening the hood. The wiring looks like mess. (mice welcome to chew on it). They just skimped on everything they could. Wiring is short, not well placed, and doesn’t have any protection on it. Looks like poor quality handicraft assembly. Someone just worked on it and just left it half done. (They will buy it anyways) Thought that was all brands lawn mowers issue, but NO. Had a look on lawnmowers of other brands and haven’t seen such sloppiness as John deer has. When cut the grass on a hill the deck gets angled, so the cut doesn’t look straight and leaves stripes on a landscape. Seems like poor deck adjustment. at he gas tank wobbles and gas meter sometimes gets stuck, so you need to adjust tank position to make the meter show you the level correctly. And all this is my own fault. I blindly trusted one of the main agricultural brands without checking and comparing. That’s my last purchase of John deer. The price they ask for this quality is insulting.

Powerful Engine

4/5

I bought this lawn tractor about two months ago and it's good, but not great. Here are some of the features it doesn't have or needs to improve before I can give it a 5 star rating; The fuel gage is under the seat, where you really can't see it. Plus the machine has to be on to give you an accurate reading. When the bagger is on, I cannot fill it but pouring fuel from a can. I need a funnel to get the gas into the gas tank. The grass catcher bags are smaller than the bags I had on the Craftsman I got rid of. Therefore, I have to stop and empty them more often. They are also made of cloth, or soft material, instead of plastic. It takes more effort to empty them. There is a gap between the bottom tube of the grass catcher and the machine. So when you cut the grass, some of comes up and gets on you. It also happens when one of the bags are almost full. That's annoying. Lastly, when I park the machine to empty the bags, I usually set the brake and leave it running while I do the emptying. Afterwards, I notice that there is a dead spot of grass where the machine was parked. I haven't noticed and engine leaks yet but I will continue to monitor. Othere than those problems, it's a good machine.

Have mowed the grass 3 times now and have only 1 complaint. Having to push the reverse button and hold it (since backing up in a small yard is generally a series of small reverses). I wouldn’t be so bad if all reverses were a single motion. It is actually more unsafe to have to continually push the button instead of actually concentrating on making sure the reverse motion is safe.

Well, I did love it until it didn't work anymore after using it twice. It "screeched" loudly at first when engaging the blades and then the blades did not engage. The dealership picked it up and examined it. Luckily, the riding lawnmower was under warranty and I am glad they were honest and upfront with me. The belt was installed with a twist at the factory and it was missed by whomever was prepping it at the dealership. The mower was returned and I look forward to using it later this week.

New S220 larger 42 inch John Deere use.

4/5

The S220 Deere LawnTractor is a very nice mower over level mowing areas with it’s 42”” deck. That same deck is more difficult to mow ditch creek area banks than my old 38” Deere. I do not like the yellow “safety” dash button that has to be pushed every time I need to back up, especially around trees, bushes, and lawn area placements and structures. Such concerns cause me to prefer using my older, smaller and thus more efficient 38” mower. The S220 is good for mowing my “prairie” area down by the creek and the flat areas around the house. As a new mower it runs very nice. My highway ditch and creek bank areas are not as friendly to the 42” turning as is my old 38” that I thankfully still have. Mowing has now become a “two stage” process, time mowing the difficult areas with the old “38 inch for best efficiency and time for mowing the open level remaining spaces.

I like the mower. There are a few things that take so getting used to. I would not like the mower to shut off every time I get off the seat. Maybe to open a barn door. The turning radius isn't great and it scalps the grass if the ground is uneven or sidehill. Otherwise it's a good mower and does the job.

Not impressed

3/5

I bought my S220 a month ago with a mulch kit. Of course it was delivered without the mulch kit due to it being out of stock. The kit arrived two weeks later and was installed at my home. I previously used a Craftsman tractor which when mulching did not throw the grass out from underneath the deck. The S220 throws grass from underneath the deck and into my flowerbeds. Also after only two cuts the belt shows fraying which the tech who installed the mulch kit said was normal. There is also a horrendous noise when engaging the belt. So far I am not impressed and wonder if I should have bought another craftsman.

Not so much of an indictment of Deere but I think all mowers are basically similar. Why are there Zirk fittings? (Obsolete for 50 yrs.) Why is it hard to steer? (ball bearings in spindle might help.) Why is it loud? (not rocket science) Why no mulch guard? (ridiculous)

Love this tractor! Be careful with height setting

4/5

My S220 was delivered 3 weeks ago, and with heavy rain recently I’ve mowed my 1-acre lawn 3 times already. This is a solid, powerful machine, mows very evenly, and is almost a zero-turn mower. Controls are obvious and accessible. This tractor is as good as I expected from JD. There’s a learning curve with mowing height. The manual claims the settings (1-4) represent 1-4” grass height. I encourage you to start with a high setting and go from there. Bermuda thrives under 2”, so I started a notch under 3. It scalped the lawn. After trial & error, my gorgeous bermuda lawn is mowed one notch OVER the 3 setting, and the yard looks amazing.

I have had many John Deere tractors during the past 50 years and have been pleased with all of my purchases including my most recent S220, but would suggest that if you can justify a tractor in the 300 - 500 series buy it!. For the past 5 years I have been using a 500 series tractor that far exceeds the S200. But when buying a tractor you have to consider many things including price, your cutting area and operational functions of your tractor. I suggest that you ride before you buy!

S220: Great Addition to Our Outdoor Tool Arsenal!

4/5

I am enjoying my new S220 very much! It makes it so much easier to mow my lawn quickly and with great-looking results. My only difficulty comes when filling the gas tank - it is hard to know when to stop pouring gas into the tank. There is no visibility to the fuel level in the tank during fueling. It's a minor inconvenience but worth mentioning. I find my tractor so useful around the yard that I revisited the store and purchased the 8Y dump cart attachment, to assist me in moving materials and plants around the yard. The tractor and this attachment are going to be part of the next phase of landscape changes and should be a BIG improvement over Phase I, where I used a wheelbarrow to bring materials up from the street! My wife and I are also planning to purchase the snow plowing attachment this fall, to get year-round value from the tractor. Between the savings from not paying for a lawn-mowing service, not paying for a landscaper and (beginning this winter) not paying for a snow-removal service, the tractor will pay for itself in just a few short years!

Not bad

3/5

I have had it about a month now. Its not what i ordered but was the next best option i guess. I ordered an s160 with a 48 inch deck but they didnt have one in stock so they talked me in to this. That being said the engine runs great, the fuel tank is small i have an acre but have only cut half of it so far this year and can only do it twice before its out of gas. I have to keep up on the grass (i cut it to about 3 and a half inches) if it gets to 4and a half or 5 inches the deck cant handle it with out bogging. The deck doesnt run as smooth as i would expect for a new mower. Over all its decent. I should have gon with the s240 and a 48 inch deck

The exhaust will burn your grass

2/5

I bought this mower new from my local dealer Minnesota Equipment. First two mows were great but the exhaust left dinner plate size burn marks anytime I stopped for a few seconds. Can’t believe John Deere is still designing mowers with the exhaust shooting directly down at your grass. This has been a known issue for years and they aren’t doing anything about it. Other than that it’s a good mower… just need to get used to having yellow circles around your lawn

Great bagging system

5/5

At first I thought it was too big. It wasn't cutting level and leaving ridges. After the John Deere dealership sent a person to my home to balance the deck and blades it did a great job. I am now used to it and I love it. I have not had any trouble and really enjoy mowing my yard. Also my old 277 is some where between 25-27 years old and is still mowing and running like a champ. It just looks bad for the many years of mowing. Love my John Deere's.

I like the mower but the bagging system I purchased leaves a lot to be desired the door you open to remove bags is a pain! Doesn’t open enough and hard to get closed Have to reach in and clean the track of grass that the bags sit on to get them in all the way so lid will close. The old 150 bagger system was much better that I had on my older John Deere. Need to come up with a better system

Second John Deere mower. First one lasted 21 years of successful service and use. Expect nothing less of this one. John Deere is synonymous with overall quality and durability. Have a very sloping lot and this takes to the terrain beautifully. Wide tires and stability help tremendously. Have had Craftsman, Poulans, Huskys, etc. but have always favored the Deere family and reputation. Another Deere product just purchased and love is the mini excavator. Keep up the Deere legend!.

Confused by "IMPROVEMENTS" over my old tractor

1/5

I bought this a month ago and very confused about the "improvements" over my LT150. 1 - adding gas is 3x as hard 2 - Uses 2x the amount of gas 3 - The bagging system is not intuitive when you need to clear clogs 4 - My leg hits the height controller when I get in and out and sometimes I don't notice the height change quickly 5 - Not 100% sure but I THINK the exhaust burns my lawn while I am emptying my bags

Tractor S220 Review: Efficient Mowing with a Few C

4/5

I purchased the Tractor S220 with a 42-inch deck about a month ago and have logged roughly 4 hours of mowing time with it. It's been a fantastic addition to my lawn care routine, especially considering I used to dread the days of manual push mowing, this little tractor even has a cup holder for those really hot days! This little tractor is a powerhouse, effortlessly tackling my one-acre lot in under an hour. However, there are a couple of minor issues I've encountered. Firstly, when the ground is damp from rain, it struggles a bit on my steep sloped areas, requiring me to carefully plan my mowing route to avoid any difficulties. Secondly, its fuel tank capacity is limited, necessitating a refill every other mow. While these quirks can be slightly inconvenient, they're manageable considering the overall efficiency and performance of the mower.

Make Mowing The Lawn Great Again

5/5

I bought the riding mower last month from helpful local John Deere dealer and it has been my greatest lawn care investment. Very easy to use for lawn cutting and leaf pickup as the leaf bag was game changing. I actually look forward to doing the lawn as it’s now kind of fun. Upgrade to riding mower as John Deere makes a great product.

Great and noticeable improvements over my LT160

5/5

My wife purchased the S220 for me a month ago, and I've used it twice already. What a great lawn tractor (so far)! My 18-year-old LT160 started having issues I simply couldn't remedy myself, so decided to take the plunge, and I do not regret it. Immediately noticed the S220 took less effort to drive, steer and turn; it was quieter; and it was a smoother ride. If I can get 18 years out of my S220, it should be the last lawn tractor I have to buy - fingers crossed!

Deck leveling

3/5

The S220 does produce as clean/neat cut as my previous John Deere. I reported this to Middletown Tractor. They told me the deck may need to be leveled up. They told me there are instructions that came with the mower. I'm an older widow and I'm not sure I can tackle this job without causing additional issues. I believe this should have been done at the factory or the store prior to delivery. At the very least, they should have a tech come to level the deck.
