What Types of Gators Are There?
- John Deere breaks down their side-by-side lineup into three categories:
- The Work Series Gator. Ideal for tough jobs all day every day. Available in gas, diesel and electric, with 2WD, 4WD, and a 6-wheel design with exceptional cargo capacity.
- Mid-Size Crossover XUVs are ideal for rugged terrain with easy-to-engage 4WD. Available in 2- or 4-passenger seating. Explore all four corners of your land alone, or with friends.
- Full-Size Crossover XUVs can work hard AND play hard. Available in 3- or 4-passenger seating with powerful engines and great towing capacity. A great option for a little bit of everything.
2WD or 4WD?
- If you are looking for a side-by-side to do lawn work, residential tasks, landscaping, or anything on relatively smooth terrain, then the 2WD Work Series will suit your needs just fine. If you are looking to go trail riding, camping, fishing, or your property is very rough in nature, then you should strongly consider 4WD in the Mid-Size or Full-Size XUVs.
How Fast Do They Go?
- John Deere Gators will vary in speed depending on the model. For example, the Work Series models' top speeds will range from 15 to 25 MPH, while the Mid-Size Crossover models range from 28 to 45+ MPH. The Full-Size Crossover XUVs go from 32 MPH to 45+ MPH as well.
Which One is Best for Me?
- When looking to purchase a utility vehicle, consider a few things:
- Level of work
- Terrain type
- Type of engine (gas, diesel, electric)
- Speed
- Number of passengers
Knowing the above factors can help you narrow down your options.
