Tractor Spotlight: John Deere 5E Series

The 5 Family makes up the largest and most powerful class of John Deere’s Compact Tractors. That makes them great tractors for large-property homeowners and even ideal for farmers needing a more maneuverable, smaller tractor around their property. Below, we’ve broken down some of the most popular 5E Series models.

Loader Lift Capacity

Maximum lift capacity is a major talking point when it comes to shopping for tractors. The 5E Series is a big step up from the 4 Family. Whereas the 4 Family’s maximum lift capacity remains around 2,500 lb, the 5E Series ranges from 3,192-3,213 lb, making it a reliable tractor for transporting hay bales, gravel and other heavy materials. If the 3,200 lb lift capacity isn’t sufficient for your chores, consider stepping up to the 5M Series, with a maximum lift capacity of 5,150 lb.

Here’s a Closer Look

Mechanical Front-Wheel Drive (MFWD) Axle
The limited-slip, heavy-duty MFWD axle provides increased drawbar pull and improved traction in slippery conditions. This helps with maneuverability and crop clearance to help minimize crop and profit loss.

Maneuverability
The front axle allows 10 degrees of oscillation, allowing itself to consistently follow uneven terrain, and making for a comfortable ride. The 55-degree turn angle makes for easy maneuvering in tight spaces, even during high-torque tasks.

Simple Operation, Intuitive Controls
The hand throttle has been moved to the operator’s right-hand console, making for easier access and additional legroom.

Premium Cab-Compatibility
Ergonomic controls at your fingertips, making for a smooth and easy ride. Light your foreground with LED headlights and work lights for improved visibility.

Electronic Quick Raise Lower (EQRL)
EQRL helps to save time and energy on repetitive rear hitch lifting and lowering tasks. Use one button to raise transport height and another to lower the rear hitch back to required depth.

SyncShuttle™ Transmission
Designed to match the power and torque of your John Deere engine, the SyncShuttle™ Transmission provides for easy and comfortable shifting, with nine forward speeds and three reverse speeds.

Selective Control Valve (SCV)
This tractor can be equipped with up to five (two rear and three mid) economical and versatile spool-type SCVs. This will provide a high flow rate for the tractor’s hydraulic system.

Power Bulge and Torque Reserve
This system allows your tractor to push through tough spots without having to downshift, even under load. This allows for increased productivity, more lugging ability and quicker power recovery.

PowrReverser™ Transmission
Effortlessly switch directions using a clutchless, electro-hydraulic directional lever at your fingertips. This makes for lower engine vibration, reduced noise and less long-term wear and tear.

More Speed Selection
The 12F/12R PowrReverser™ Transmission allows 12 forward speeds and 12 reverse speeds for ample speed choices and user-friendly operation.

Cooling Package Design
To maximize uptime and enhance performance, the cooling package on the Final Tier 4 4-cylinder engine allows for easier access and serviceability. The electronically controlled fan drive saves fuel and improves hydraulic cooling by running only as fast as the tractor demands at any given time.
