First, Let's Talk About Models
Gators are designed to fit a wide variety of needs, from transporting and towing heavy loads and traveling on tough terrain to landscaping and groundskeeping. Here’s a quick look at the different types of John Deere gators:
Traditional UTVs
This series is designed for residential and lighter work like yard maintenance, landscaping, golf and turf maintenance, and more. With up to 18.2 horsepower, these gators aren’t designed for the heavy-lifting tasks you’ll see from the larger models, but the 1,200-lb. cargo box makes them a worthy helping hand all around your property. They can tow up to 1,400 lbs, and come in gas, diesel, and electric.

John Deere’s mid-size Gators are designed to take on more rugged terrain than the traditional models. With easy-to-engage 4WD and 2- to 4-seat models available, you’ll be sharing the adventure with friends and family, too. With up to 32 horsepower, a 500-lb. cargo box, and 1,500-lb. towing capacity, there’s no limit to how you can put this machine to work. When you’re done, you can load it up in the back of a full-sized pickup truck.

Finally, the largest John Deere has to offer, full-size Gator UTVs are loaded with up to 58 horsepower and performance and efficiency upgrades to take on more tasks than ever before. The 1,000-lb. cargo box holds up to 18.5 cubic feet of material–with a towing capacity of 4,000-lbs, this Gator takes transportation and material handling to a whole new level. With 3- and 4-seat models and 12-volt ports, and an optional closed cab, you can ride comfortably in this gator all day long.

- Speed: One of the most popular reasons customers choose Gator UTVs is their speed and mobility. You can cover a lot of ground in a Gator, even on rough terrain and tight trails.
- Versatility: Gators, believe it or not, are often able to accomplish the tasks that you’d expect from a compact tractor, like spraying, towing, hauling materials, and more. They’re customizable and highly versatile.
- Size: We’ve already mentioned their mobility–they can fit in tight spaces easily. This is a benefit while working, but also a benefit when it comes to storage. It’s much easier to find storage for a Gator than for a compact tractor.
- Price: Finally, when viewed as an alternative to a compact tractor, Gator UTVs are competitively priced. In situations where your tasks can be carried out by a Gator, they prove to be an economical choice.
