Excellent cut quality
42A Mower Deck top 42A Mower Deck top
42A Mower Deck underside 42A Mower Deck underside

Deep mower-deck stamping gives excellent cut quality. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck without getting recut:

  • Reducing the amount of recutting enables more power to be used to cut incoming grass, which greatly improves mower capacity.
    • Helps maintain excellent cut quality at faster mowing speeds
  • Clean flow of material out of discharge area prevents cut material from interfering with cutting the incoming grass, making it possible for the blades to cut incoming material cleanly.
  • Even in mulching mode, cut evenness is improved compared to other designs because the additional depth allows for continuous circulation, optimal recutting, and an even distribution of clippings.
  • Exact Adjust deck-leveling system allows for easy and accurate leveling of the mower deck
Productivity - gets the job done fast
Side-discharge chute on Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck Side-discharge chute on Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck

Deep mower-deck stamping gives high productivity, which gets the job done fast. It allows the cut and suspended material room to exit the deck quickly, reducing the amount of recutting so more power is available to process incoming grass:

  • Greatly improves mowers capacity to maintain excellent mowing performance in difficult mowing conditions and at higher speeds

Large discharge opening is both high and wide to handle more material:

  • Gives a smooth, even discharge of clippings at all mowing speeds
  • Reduces the chance of plugging, especially important when operating in wet, thick, or dense grass and when bagging
  • Cut-and-throw chute has a large, optimized inlet which aids in collecting material by using airflow from the large deck opening
Cleanliness - for the mower and the operator
Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck
Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck Accel Deep 42A Mower Deck

The flat-top shape of the deck stamping is optimal for keeping itself and the operator clean:

  • There are few places to catch and hold material on top and underneath the deck.
    • Top of deck stays cleaner, reducing time and effort needed for cleaning and service
    • Underside of deck is self-cleaning to maintain optimum performance without buildup of material to interfere with the flow of air and clippings
    • Less need to clean and remove buildup of material from underside deck
  • The depth of the Accel Deep mower deck minimizes the amount of material that escapes from the front of the deck
    • Limited amount of material to drift onto the operator and mower deck
    • Even flow of material discharged out the chute, less recutting results in larger pieces that are less likely to end up on the operator
    • Mulching prevents the discharge of material completely and MulchControl makes mulching a practical solution for most mowing situations.

Cleaning a mower deck, both top and bottom, is one of the most frequent maintenance activities:

  • The flat-top design reduces places for material to build up and makes material that does collect easy to remove.

Mower deck wheels are double captured for durability Mower deck wheels are double captured for durability

The 42A Mower Deck has strong spindle pockets to keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough service:

  • Ribs in the deck shell add strength where it is needed.
  • The 42A has a 16 percent heavier overall weight than the Edge™ Xtra 42-in. (107-cm) Mower Deck.

Mower wheels are double captured:

  • Provides greater strength and durability for longer, trouble-free life.
  • Single-bolt adjustment makes setting wheels to the correct height for the cutting height quick and easy.

Low-tension belt-drive design reduces the side load on the engines lower bearing and mower deck bearings for longer life.

Rolled outer edge of the deck provides extra strength and protection.

Dual-stage E-coat and powder-paint coatings provide extra protection from rust.

Electric one-touch MulchControl switch Electric one-touch MulchControl switch

The optional MulchControl system makes mulching more practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching, but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge or collect the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:

  • Creates a beautiful looking lawn
  • Smaller grass clippings disappear into the lawn canopy
  • Reduces fertilizer needs
  • Grass clippings are not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
  • No need to dispose of bags of clippings
How MulchControl works
MulchControl baffle open (shown on 48A mower deck) MulchControl baffle open (shown on 48A mower deck)
MulchControl baffle closed (shown on 48A mower deck) MulchControl baffle closed (shown on 48A mower deck)

MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:

  • The MulchControl system includes an adjustable MulchControl baffle near the discharge chute and fixed baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
  • The MulchControl handle, or an electric one-touch actuator, is on top of the mower deck and is used to open and close the MulchControl baffle.
  • When the MulchControl baffle is open, most of the material flows freely out the discharge deflector or into a material collection system.
  • When the MulchControl baffle is closed, material stays within the deck and gets chopped into mulch and deposited in the turf.

MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:

  • For operators who usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
  • For operators who usually side discharge, but would like to close the chute to control clippings in some areas
  • For operators who always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns
  • For operators who collect clippings but want to go farther before emptying the material collection system

MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings.

Electric one-touch MulchControl

Electric one-touch MulchControl systems shift the MulchControl baffle using an electric actuator that is operated by a dash-mounted switch.

Electric one-touch MulchControl switcht Electric one-touch MulchControl switcht
Electric one-touch MulchControl actuator (shown on 42A mower deck) Electric one-touch MulchControl actuator (shown on 42A mower deck)

Operators can convert between modes without interrupting the mowing process, making it possible to change between modes:

  • When approaching driveways or flower beds where clippings would be undesirable
  • When a breeze blows clippings back onto the operator
  • For side discharge mowing only the areas of the property where grass is too thick for mulching
  • With 48A and 54A Mower Decks, for collecting only the areas of the property where grass is too tall or thick for mulching
MulchControl limitations

While in the side discharge mode, MulchControl still mulches about one third of the material. Therefore, the side discharge mode is essentially a partial mulch mode. This can be an advantage when side discharging or bagging, as it helps to reduce the amount of material being discharged. Other times this could work as a disadvantage:

  • When cutting strong southern grasses, such as Zoysia and Bermuda
  • When cutting in wet, high growth conditions, such as those found in the Pacific Northwest United States
  • When optimum bagging and lawn cleanup is desired
  • 42A Mower Deck requires a MulchControl baffle be removed to install the bagger chute

When bagging with MulchControl on a 48A or 54A mower deck, the MulchControl baffle can be opened or closed with the Power Flow™ blower installed. The Power Flow blower runs without material when the baffle is closed.

Rear baffle (A) must be removed for bagging with MulchControl with 42A mower decks Rear baffle (A) must be removed for bagging with MulchControl with 42A mower decks

When bagging with MulchControl on a 42A mower deck, the cut-and-throw rear bagger can be used with the MulchControl blades. However, the rear MulchControl baffle (A) needs to be removed to install the bagger chute. The baffle is held in place with two carriage bolts. To return to mulching, the chute needs to be removed and the baffle replaced.

John Deere riding lawn mowers are supported by owner information web pages that include links to:

  • Safety and how-to videos
  • Operator’s manuals
  • Parts catalog
  • Maintenance reminder sheets
  • Attachments
  • Warranty statements

To speed access to owner information web pages, a QR code is printed onto a PIN label located under the hood on trim side of the steering pedestal. Since each vehicle model has its own web page, the links are specific to the owner’s model. The QR code also includes the vehicle’s unique PIN which allows for additional customization of the owner information web page in the future.

Exact Adjust ports and onboard deck-leveling tools make precise deck adjustments easy
Deck-leveling gauge and hex adjusting tool stored under tractor seat Deck-leveling gauge and hex adjusting tool stored under tractor seat
Exact Adjust access holes Exact Adjust access holes

A mower deck must be level side-to-side and properly adjusted front-to-rear to give the best cutting performance. A removable onboard deck-leveling gauge and a hex-key tool are provided to make adjustment easy. They are securely stored under the tractor seat.

Exact Adjust leveling ports are provided on each side of the operator platform above the mower-level adjusting bolts. With the hex-shaped tool, they provide convenient access to allow quick and easy adjustment of the mower for the best-cut quality of cut.

The Exact Adjust feature is standard on all Select Series™ X300 and X500 Tractors:

  • There is no need to reach under the fender deck while making the mower-level adjustment.
  • Onboard deck-leveling gauge, Exact Adjust ports, and the hex tool work together.
    • Level the mower deck side to side
    • Set the correct amount of rake (front-to-back deck orientation)
    • Calibrate the cutting height to the cut-height adjusting knob setting
  • Exact Adjust simplifies leveling the mower deck if equipped with a Power Flow™ blower.
    • To give the best cut, mower level should be adjusted if alternately mowing with and without blower installed. The Exact Adjust feature makes this easy.

Consult the operator's manual for the correct adjusting procedures for each tractor model. Basic adjusting steps to properly level the mower deck include:

  • Park the tractor on a level surface.
  • Inflate tires to the correct pressure.
  • Consult the label for the cutting-height knob that is located on the console of the machine. This label shows deck-leveling position and location of deck-leveling adjustment points.
Cut height adjusting knob Cut height adjusting knob
  • Set mower cutting-height knob to the correct deck-leveling position.
  • Adjust mower wheels as necessary so they do not contact the ground surface.
  • Remove the onboard deck-leveling gauge that is located under the seat.
  • Using the Exact Adjust ports and tool, adjust mower deck side-to-side level so the deck-leveling gauge just slips under the left and right lower deck rim at the designated adjustment points. The location of adjustment points varies slightly between decks.
    • Left- and right-rear adjustment points are under the deck rim near the rear mower wheels, if equipped.
  • Adjust mower deck front-to-back level, if necessary.
    • Loosen rear nuts equally on each side of front lift rod.
    • Turn front nut equally on each side clockwise to raise front of mower or counterclockwise to lower it until gauge just slips under the front adjustment point.
    • Tighten rear nuts after adjustment is complete.
  • Return the gauge to its storage position.

NOTE: The adjusting tool supplied with the tractor is an 8-mm ball-hex key, part number M162737. The rounded end allows for some misalignment with the bolt as the deck is adjusted.

Every owner of a John riding lawn and garden product is a potential customer for a high-quality, affordable utility cart. Utility carts can be used to haul a variety of materials including firewood, lawn debris, sand, dirt, mulch, garden tools, plants, and bushes.

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

NOTE: For proper braking and operation, the loaded weight of the cart should never exceed the weight of the tractor, or other towing unit, plus the operator. The loaded weight of any equipment towed by an EZtrak™ or ZTrak™ mower should not exceed 250 lb (113.4 kg). See the appropriate vehicle pages for the weight of the vehicle and the mower deck.

7P Poly Utility Cart7P Poly Utility Cart
  • The cart has a premium molded, high-density polyethylene box construction.
  • Compression molding process allows polyethylene to be the optimum thickness in all areas for superior strength and durability.
  • Polyethylene body will not rust or dent; it stays looking new longer.
  • 0.75-in. (2-cm) x 2-in. (5-cm) stake pockets are molded in to make the addition of side extensions easy.
  • Two vertical 0.75-in. (2-cm) molded channels on each side allow easy use of dividers to separate the box into two or three compartments.
  • Ribs in the box bottom add strength and prevent the shovel from hitting bolts when emptying the cart.
  • Sloped tailgate design makes emptying the box easier; there is no tailgate to loosen or remove.
  • Styling is compatible with other John Deere equipment.
  • Pneumatic tires provide turf tread for good flotation, shock absorption, and minimal rolling resistance.

Iron and Oilite® wheel bearings with grease fittings provide lubrication for long life.

The pneumatic tires offer the following:

  • Good flotation
  • Minimal rolling resistance
  • Shock absorption

13 Steel Utility Cart 13 Steel Utility Cart

Every owner of a John Deere riding lawn and garden product is a potential customer for a high-quality, affordable utility cart. Utility carts can be used to haul a variety of materials, including firewood, lawn debris, dirt, sand, mulch, garden tools, plants, and bushes.

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

For proper braking and operation, the loaded weight of the cart should never exceed the weight of the tractor, or other towing unit, plus the operator. See the appropriate vehicle pages for the weight of the vehicle and the mower deck.

Welded boxWelded box

Welded box construction provides maximum reliability:

  • Requires less setup time than the bolted construction.
  • Box sides and bottom are one piece and have rounded corners and no hardware for easy cleaning.
Wheels and tires

Wheels are mounted on a solid, one-piece axle for durability.

Iron/Oilite® wheel bearings with grease fittings provide lubrication for long life.

Pneumatic tires offer:

  • Good flotation
  • Minimal rolling resistance
  • Shock absorption

Turf-tread tires are used on the 13 Utility Cart.

Deluxe tailgateDeluxe tailgate

Deluxe tailgate is hinged for easy emptying and can also be quickly removed without the use of tools.

Easy hookup and tilt-dump latch
Spring-pin tractor hitchSpring-pin tractor hitch
Tilt-dump latchTilt-dump latch

A large-diameter hitch pin provides plenty of strength:

  • Fast, easy attachment to the tractor hitch
  • Spring pin to ensure the pin stays in place

The easy-to-use latch allows tilting the bed for easier unloading:

  • Steep dump angle makes emptying easier.

16YS Swivel Cart16YS Swivel Cart

The 17-cu-ft (0.48-m³), 800-lb (363-kg) capacity or 350 lb (158 kg) when using swivel feature to dump 16YS Swivel Cart is unique in the lineup of John Deere carts in that it can be swiveled 120 degrees to either side for easier unloading. The operator can simply pull up next to where they want to dump the material and swivel the cart, eliminating the need to back up the cart.

Key features include:

  • Haul a variety of materials including lawn debris, sand, dirt, mulch, and plants
  • 800-lb (363-kg) capacity makes it durable enough for the heavy jobs
    • 350 lb (158 kg) when using swivel feature to dump
  • Convenient foot pedal release for easy dumping
  • Molded stake pockets for enlarging the bed size

NOTE: Do not exceed 350 lb (158 kg) weight capacity when using swivel feature to dump.

Every owner of a John Deere riding lawn and garden product is a potential customer for a high-quality, affordable utility cart.

See the appropriate vehicle pages for the weight of the vehicle and the mower deck.

17P Utility Cart17P Utility Cart

Every owner of a John Deere riding lawn and garden product is a potential user of a high-quality, affordable utility cart.

Utility carts can be used to haul a variety of materials:

  • Firewood
  • Lawn debris
  • Sand
  • Dirt
  • Mulch
  • Garden tools
  • Plants and bushes

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

Key features of the 17P Utility Cart:

  • 1,000-lb (454-kg), 17-cu ft (0.48-m3) load capacity.
  • Cart has premium molded polypropylene box construction.
  • Polypropylene body will not rust or dent, staying new-looking longer.
  • 0.75- x 2-in. (19- x 51-mm) stake pockets are molded in to make addition of side extensions easy.
  • Two vertical 0.75-in. (19-mm) molded channels on each side allow for easy use of dividers to separate the box into two or three compartments.
  • Ribs in box bottom add strength and prevent a shovel from hitting bolts when emptying the cart.
  • Sloped tailgate design makes emptying the box easier; no tailgate to loosen or remove.
  • Styling is compatible with other John Deere equipment.
  • 16x6.5 pneumatic tires with turf tread give good flotation, shock absorption, and minimal rolling resistance.
  • Wheels are mounted on a solid one-piece axle.
  • Wheels turn on iron/Oilite® bushings with grease fitting for long life.
  • Spring-loaded dump latch is easy to use.

A convenient foot pedal dump release kit, LP48017, which now comes standard on all 10P and 17P carts is available to retrofit existing poly carts. This kit allows the operator to use both hands to lift the cart bed for more natural and efficient unloading.

Upper chute with handle and full indicatorUpper chute with handle and full indicator

The rear bagger chute for the 42-in. (107-cm) Accel Deep™ Mower Deck (42A) is required for use of the two-bag, 7-bu (247-L) rear bagger:

  • The chute is a two-piece design to allow easy installation at the mower deck, without the rear of the chute being encumbered by the hopper.
  • A convenient handle is included on the top section of the chute to make installation and removal easier.
  • The top section of the chute slides into the flexible hose that is attached to the hopper and is held securely to the bottom section with an easy-to-use bungee cord.
  • A fill indicator tells the operator when the bags are getting full.

The rear bagger chute attachment includes special bagging blades, a toe guard (A) with features for installing the bagger chute, and a front bagger baffle (B) to direct the material rearward into the bagger chute:

  • The replacement toe guard is intended to remain on the mower deck and to be used for any mower application - bagging, side discharging, or mulching.
  • A baffle to narrow the side-discharge opening (where the bagger chute is installed on the mower deck) and direct the material into the chute is provided with the rear bagger chute and needs to be bolted underneath the deck at the front.
    • This baffle may remain in place when the bagger chute is removed for side discharging material, however for ultimate side-discharge performance it could be removed.
    • This front baffle included with the bagger chute attachment is not required if the mower deck is equipped with the MulchControl™ attachment. The MulchControl front baffle can remain with the gate open for bagging and serves the same purpose.
Mower blades
Mower blades shipped with the rear bagger chuteMower blades shipped with the rear bagger chute

High lift bagging blades are included with the chute. They provide optimum performance when bagging in difficult conditions, such as when the grass is moist, dense, or long:

  • High-lift bagging blades also work well when side discharging material.

Mulching blades are included with the MulchControl attachment. They can be used for mulching, side discharging, and bagging in most conditions.

The operator's manuals provided with the rear bagger chute and the MulchControl attachment should be used as the primary guide, however these tips may be helpful to keep in mind:

  • Both the rear bagger chute and the MulchControl attachment come with a baffle that bolts inside the mower deck along the front edge to narrow the discharge opening, which has been optimized for side discharging material, and direct the material into the bagger chute.
    • If the mower deck is equipped with MulchControl, the front bagger baffle included with the bagger chute is not used.
  • The front baffle, either the one included with the rear bagger chute or the one included with MulchControl (B), can remain in place for side discharging.
    • For ultimate side-discharge performance this baffle can be removed.
  • The optional MulchControl attachment includes a rear MulchControl baffle (A), held in by two carriage bolts, at the rear edge of the discharge opening. This baffle:
    • Must be removed for installation of the rear bagger chute, a 13-mm (0.51-in.) wrench is required (the bagger chute cannot be installed without removing this baffle)
    • Can remain removed for side discharging material
    • Must be re-installed for mulching

8-oz (237-mL) Fuel-Protect gasoline stabilizer8-oz (237-mL) Fuel-Protect gasoline stabilizer

John Deere Fuel-Protect gasoline stabilizer is a unique formula developed to ensure optimum performance and protection year-round:

  • Has corrosion preventers
  • For lawn and garden equipment and other gasoline-powered vehicles
  • Ensures quick starts in all two- and four-cycle engines
  • Use in gasoline, gasoline-oil mixture, and ethanol blends
  • Use to treat gas cans at each fill-up or use at every fill-up of vehicle
  • Keeps fuel fresh for 12 months
  • Contains a fuel injector and carburetor cleaner
  • 1 oz (29.6 mL) treats 2 gal. (7.6 L)

Always use fuel stabilizer in gasoline.

Fuel sitting in gas tanks or gas containers for more than 30 days begins to degrade. Also, blended fuels and water in gasoline can form acids that corrode fuel-system components. Protect the investment - use John Deere fuel stabilizer with corrosion preventers and prevent hard starting, surging, lack of power, poor idle, flooding, and will not run or stay running conditions caused by poor-quality fuel. Ask a local John Deere dealer or visit JDParts.

Helpful tips:

  • Add fuel stabilizer every time fuel is purchased.
  • Deere gasoline-powered equipment is recommended to run on a minimum of 87 octane gasoline.
  • John Deere Fuel-Protect for gasoline is safe to use in all types of gasoline, including gasoline/oil mixtures and blended fuels containing up to 10 percent ethanol.
  • Use plastic fuel containers to store fuel; ask a local John Deere dealer.
  • For best results, use a spill-proof gas can that automatically seals the gas can vent.
  • Store fuel in a cool, dry, dark place in a sealed fuel can.
  • Fill tank to the top every time the machine is put away.
    • Make sure tank is drained if stored for the winter or treated if left for prolonged periods of time.

Please refer to the operator’s manual for additional recommendations and warranty information.

Fuel related issues are not considered a warrantable condition as there is no defect in the materials or workmanship of the machine.

For more information on fuel, visit John Deere Groundscare.

X350 Tractor with Accel Deep MowerX350 Tractor with Accel Deep Mower

MulchControl for the 42-in. (107-cm) Accel Deep (42A) Mower Deck makes mulching more practical for many mowing situations because it not only does an excellent job of mulching but it also allows the mower to be easily converted for times when it is more desirable to side discharge or collect the lawn material. Advantages of mulching grass clippings include:

  • A beautiful looking lawn
  • Grass clippings not blown onto the operator, driveways, or flower beds
  • Less fertilizer use
  • Elimination of the effort needed to dispose of clippings
How MulchControl works
MulchControl baffle openMulchControl baffle open
MulchControl baffle closedMulchControl baffle closed

MulchControl is an innovative, simple design that is easy to use and maintain:

  • MulchControl includes baffles to control the flow of material under the deck.
    • When the MulchControl baffle is open, most of the material passes through the discharge opening.
    • When the MulchControl baffle is closed, the material stays within the deck and gets chopped into mulch and deposited in the turf.
MulchControl baffle closedMulchControl baffle closed
MulchControl handleMulchControl handle
  • The MulchControl handle is located on top of the mower deck and used to open and close the discharge baffle.
    • The operator is required to get off of the machine in order to engage or disengage mulch mode.
  • Changing from mulching to side discharging or vice versa takes only a few seconds.

MulchControl is well-suited to the following mowing situations:

  • Usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
  • Usually side-discharge, but would like to be able to close the chute to control clippings
  • Always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns
  • Bag clippings, but want to go farther before emptying bags

MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings. The operator can have all the benefits of mulching with the ability to easily change to side discharging when needed.

MulchControl limitations

While in the side-discharge mode, MulchControl will still mulch about one third of the material. Therefore, the side-discharge mode is essentially a partial-mulch mode. This can be an advantage when side discharging or bagging, as it helps to reduce the amount of material being discharged. Other times this could work as a disadvantage:

  • When cutting strong southern grasses, such as Zoysia and Bermuda
  • When cutting in wet, high-growth conditions, such as those found in the Pacific Northwest United States
  • When optimum bagging and lawn clean-up is desired
  • 42A Mower Deck requires a MulchControl baffle be removed to install the bagger chute; see 42A versatility explanation for more information

One-touch MulchControl switchOne-touch MulchControl switch

The 42-in. (107-cm) electric one-touch MulchControl attachment enhances versatility and productivity. A mower deck equipped with electric one-touch MulchControl not only does an excellent job of mowing and mulching, but it can also be quickly converted to side discharge or mulch mode with the touch of a switch:

  • Easily converts while mowing from side discharge mode to mulch mode or vice versa
  • In mulch mode, controls clippings dispersion in unwanted areas (driveways, landscape beds, near buildings, windows, parking lots, etc.)
  • Reduces cleanup time needed to dispose of clippings
  • Will reduce the amount of material entering a material collection system because, even in the side discharge mode, MulchControl will mulch about one third of the material due to the additional baffles under the mower deck
How electric one-touch MulchControl works

A tractor equipped with the electric one-touch MulchControl attachment delivers unprecedented levels of productivity and versatility. A convenient, dash-mounted switch provides operators the ability to change between side discharging and mulching. A heavy-duty discharge baffle opens and closes easily with the touch of the dash-mounted switch.

    • The operator is not required to get off of the machine in order to engage or disengage mulch mode.

MulchControl is well suited to the following mowing situations:

  • For operators who usually mulch, but side discharge when grass gets too long
  • For operators who usually side discharge, but would like to be able to close the chute to control clippings
  • For operators who always mulch a main lawn, but often side discharge secondary lawns

MulchControl puts the operator in control of the clippings. The operator can have all the benefits of mulching with the ability to easily change to side discharging when desired.

With electric one-touch MulchControl, operators can convert between modes without interrupting the mowing process, making it practical to change between modes as conditions require:

  • When approaching clean areas like driveways or flowerbeds where clippings would be undesirable
  • When a breeze might blow clippings back onto the operator
  • For side discharge mowing only the areas of the property where grass is too tall or thick for mulching

Advantages of MulchControl include:

  • Performance is improved.
    • Mulching is beneficial because it returns the clippings to the ground as fertilizer, which promotes lawn growth.
    • Clippings are much smaller, which allows them to fall into the grass and be removed from view.
    • Unsightly grass clippings are not blown onto driveways or into flower beds.
    • Fertilizer use is reduce and provides associated environmental benefits.
  • Uptime is increased.
    • Operators can convert quickly between modes, making it possible to change between mulching and side discharging as conditions require.
    • Mulching heavy, thick material can significantly reduce mower productivity. The ability to switch from mulch to side discharge mode ensures productivity, especially in grass too tall or thick to mulch effectively.
  • Cost of operation is reduced.
    • Controlling clipping dispersion reduces cleanup time.
MulchControl limitations

While in the side discharge mode, MulchControl will still mulch about one third of the material.

  • 42A Mower Deck requires a MulchControl baffle be removed to install the bagger chute; see 42A versatility explanation for more information
Compatibility

This electric one-touch MulchControl attachment is field installed and compatible with a 42A Mower installed on an X300 Select Series Tractor.

NOTE: Model year 2016-2017 X300 Series Tractors (serial number 10,001-50,000) require replacing the tractor wiring harness and dash panel to use an electric MulchControl attachment.

Thatchers

The thatcher, used on a regular basis, reduces excessive thatch buildup that can be damaging to a lawn's health.

Since it provides more gentle, less aggressive action than a power rake, it can be used as a preventive maintenance tool each time the lawn is mowed.

Tire Chains

TerraGrip Traction BeltTerraGrip Traction Belt
#

Protect your driving surface. TerraGrip Traction Belts offer enhanced traction on snow, mud, dirt, wet asphalt, and wet concrete surfaces. They will not scratch or chip concrete, asphalt, or aggregate drives or walkways. The proven reliability of the traditional steel chain attachment system is used and combined with the performance and durability of reinforced rubber slats. The rubber slats wrap around the tire so only rubber touches the driving surface. The result is aggressive traction without the risk of surface damage, that can happen with traditional chains.

Features:
  • Rubber slats surround the tire and will not damage driveways or sidewalks.
  • No steel touches the driving surface.
  • No-tools installation utilizes a traditional steel chain attachment system.
  • Traction is improved on all surfaces, especially loose material (snow, dirt, mud, sand, etc.).
  • TerraGrip Traction Belts are approved for John Deere X300, X500 M-T, and X700 Series Tractors.

Additional information for 4-wheel-steer tractor models:

  • X700 Series – requires wheel spacer sold separately
  • X500 Series – requires wheel stop adjustment
  • X300 Series – no additional requirements

Very Smooth mower

5/5

I returned my X354 on JD’s 30-day promise due to the tremendous effort to steer, and ordered this X370 instead. I am extremely happy! To anyone who has never driven a mower with power steering, I highly suggest you try it. I could never get my wife to mow due to steering effort, but she got on this mower and continued to mow the entire lawn. The 21.5 HP engine is extremely powerful with this 42-in deck. Engine starts and runs very smooth. It does use gas, but I am happy to trade that for the nice power it possesses. It also comes with the slightly upgraded K57 transmission vs the smaller K46. It’s like .3 MPH faster too, which is not a lot, but I did notice it. Transmission never whined once even on my decent hills. As for cons, I really wish JD would equip these with rear scalp wheels. They are a must have on my property, and I fabricated and installed my own. Even though the deck is only 42-inches, when you hit a dip or slope straight on, whether up or down, the deck will scalp without the rear scalp wheels. It’s understandable they aren’t on the X354 because of rear wheel clearance, but there is no excuse to not install them on any X series 2-wheel drive mower. As for the seat; it’s awesome too. Very comfy and has 3 spring settings in addition to being able to be adjusted forward or backward. After leveling the deck myself due to it being way off on delivery, it cut very clean and smooth. This mower does not come cheap, but it was worth every penny in my opinion. Probably the smoothest mower I’ve ever driven in my nearly 50 years.

Bought the x370 last year. Not good in the winter if you purchase a snow blower attachment.Takes at least 15 min to start in a garage and does the manufacturer tighten the oil filter with a torque wrench because it should be slightly over hand tight!

Overall happy with the unit

4/5

Got this late in summer. Hard to have a real review at only 2 hours on it. Wife loves it. Handles nice easy to operate. Smooth running cuts well. Since my last mower one thing I like better in the husqvarna is all u have to do is turn key back 1 notch abs can reverse anytime, with this jd u have to hold button each time- that Ishtar convenient! Jd spins on hills more then husq . This unit has a great turning radius.

Great Tractor!

5/5

I decided to replace my old D130, after cutting my daughters lawn with her 2020 X370. I ordered mine in May of 2021 and when I did I also bought the bagging system. My tractor arrived first week of June, but had to wait for the bagging system a bought a month. It is a pleasure to cut my lawn with this tractor and plan on buying the snow blower attachment. The only thing I have found is the reverse is a bit touchy, timing with my reverse switch will sometimes cut off the PTO, maybe this is still me getting use to the tractor.

Great quality, Great Purchase

5/5

Its been over a year since my X370 riding lawn tractor. Super happy with it. Comfortable to ride, easy controls. My first Deere purchase. Can’t wait to check out the attachments I can get for it. Having my X370 helps maintain my 15acres. More importantly, at my age, I let the tractor do all the hard work and heavy carrying.

Best riding mower I've ever had

5/5

I recently moved to a hilly location and my zero turn was constantly losing traction. I decided to buy a riding mower and I'm glad that I bought this one. Not only does it handle my new yard better, it also mows better than my old mower did when it was new!

Great Lawn Tractor

5/5

I just got my X370 on July 1st and have used it now for the past three months. It has been very wet in my area so the yard has been soft. I ordered and got the mulching kit and installed it myself, that was easy. I have to tell you this is the 4th tractor i have with a mulching kit and the X370 blows them all away. The Power steering makes it so easy to handle. It gives the best cut and mulches everything so well. Best tractor i ever had.

Worst John Deere I’ve Owned

I’ve owned several John Deere tractors. This is the first one with a mulch kit and bagging system. The bagging system is terrible - get’s clogged even when the grass being cut is not very long.

X370 - great lawn tractor

4/5

Traded in my 21 year old LX178 for this beauty. Massive upgrade in power and features such as hydraulic lift and power steering. Love the X370 with one exception. I have about 3 spots in my front yard that have a minor hole or unevenness. My old LX178 deck floated over without scalping. The X370 deck scalps. Doesn’t float over uneven spots like my old LX178, which is hard to believe!! Also burns gas like crazy.

The latest is the greatest

5/5

Early summer, my LX178 finally gave indications that it was time to buy a new mower. I looked in the showroom that was pretty much barren because the Dealer original allotment had been sold. I spoke with a trusted JD mechanic and he recommended stick with the Kawasaki motors. I looked at the sales literature and spoke with the dealer rep. I told him to order me a X370. The change in this level of mower over the decades has me flustered and impressed. The power steering is just Great. The power lift and lower for the deck is just Great. I'm totally stoked and if this is my last rider that I take into the sunset I will be grateful. We will see how it stacks up next spring. The deck improvements are super and I can't be happier at this early stage with this new riding mower. If I get the same service out of it that I have had in LX172 and LX178, I will be most happy camper. The top mounts for the spindle post zerks is a plus. Ditto the flip top cover on the deck drive belt assembly to keep that area clean of clippings. Heck of a machine I say.

Highly Recommend the X370!

5/5

Just took delivery of my 2021 John Deere X370 and after putting it through it’s paces I am extremely pleased with its performance. From the start you can tell this is a well made machine. My previous JD mower was a LA-135 and still runs great after 13 years but felt it was time for something new. First - I absolutely love the X370’s power steering and hydraulic lift! This made cutting around trees a breeze! The bagger and the dealer installed bagging blades made for a great combination in sucking up grass clippings and leaves. The large seat and springs made for a very comfortable ride too. This machine handled the hilly terrain of our backyard with no issues. No complaints and well worth the investment! I’m looking forward to using this mower for many seasons to come.

I've got 27 hours on my X370 and I'm very satisfied with the performance. It cuts perfectly, and the steering is so easy, you could steer with one finger. Great for getting close to trees and shrubs. Not my first JD, and not my last for sure. RevRon

Like my X370

5/5

I have had my X370 for about 6 months, with about 30 hours on it now. My lawn is fairly flat, with some drainage features. The 42 inch mower does a very good job, although I have to hand mow a drain ditch high spot ( the 42" mower wants to scalp this ) . The rest of the lawn mows very well. I have the mulch blades and that seems also to work well. I got the X370 because of the hydraulic lift and steering, due to leg issues from a back injury. Hydraulics is a good thing, and there have been no issues with lifting the mower or 44" angling snow plow at temperatures in the low 20*F range. I also like that both the transmission and engine have serviceable filters. I would do it again. I recommend C&B Deere out of Miles City, Montana, as my dealer.

Formerly A good product

3/5

I had an X370 with about 30 hours on it and the drive belt broke. I took a look and decided it was a bigger job than I could handle so I called the dealer and made a trade for a brand-new X370. After 1 hour of mowing, the mower deck belt broke. I called the dealer and they sent someone out to fix it. I was able to mow my lawn successfully once and the next time I tried mowing, the mower deck belt broke again. (3 hours on the machine) I called the dealer, but they were too busy to come and get it. I don't think John Deere is anywhere near the quality that they used to be. I have had many John Deere lawn mowers, snow blowers and lawn tractors over the last 40 years, but this really shows how far the quality has fallen.

  • drives nice. steers easlity

Doesn't bag well

3/5

I have owned 2 lawn tractors before this one, the last one was the X300, and they both bagged better than this tractor. I believe the design of the accel deep deck places the blades too low in the deck. It bags about 3/4 of the clippings and debris and throws the rest everywhere. My other complaint is switching from mulching to bagging is not the simple task they advertise. You have to remove the discharge chute to use the bagging chute because there is no way it will make a seal otherwise and you have to switch back to mulch because the mulching plate bolts to the middle of the discharge chute. Poor design, all you need to mulch is a cover. Very disappointed.

  • poor bagging not convenient

not the best for SNOW BLOWING on incline

4/5

X370 tractor,, it does a great job mowing, and sucking up leaves, but come winter time, blowing on level ground is very easy, but when you move to a incline it struggles,I have to blow down hill,, this was my first year, with snow blower. Even with chains and suitcase weights, the rear end is to light in weight. Next season l will try wheel weights to see if it helps.

Pros

  • best mower for the yard

my favorite deere yet

5/5

I have owned John Deere tractors for a number of years, starting with an L series, moving up to an S240, and finally ending up at the X370 most recently. The automotive power steering is especially helpful at preventing fatigue as I mow nearly two acres regularly. The serviceable transaxle is great because I have a hilly property and that increases heat and wear on a transaxle. The Accel Deep deck is phenomenal - you can actually hear the suction it creates to lift the grass when you mow with it. Cut quality is excellent and I have installed the mulch control kit for added versatility because I mow a large road frontage and don't want to throw grass into the road. My only complaint is about an hour into mowing the LCD screen will partially fog up. It goes away with no damage but there must be a small leak in the display allowing moisture build-up. I would heartily recommend this tractor.

Pros

  • high quality

Cons

  • lcd display fogs up

Not for Snow blowing

3/5

I like this tractor. It is smooth, quiet, well-equipped, well-designed. But it has one major fault: it does not have a limited slip differential and none available. I have a very minor grade on my driveway but this does not have the traction to blow snow and move uphill. Even with chains and 2 suitcase weights. I was told I should look for a tractor with limited slip, but I really liked this model. My mistake. Will be looking to sell it if possible. Other than that, it works and runs great.

  • good features well designed

Bring on the snow!!!

5/5

My L120 was tired. 500+ hours, but was going to need tires, blades, belts. Too much. Time to go. So I sold it, and bought the x370. I'm getting up in years, and the central New York Snow is still coming down. So, I figured I'll sell the snow blower too, and buy the x370 w/blower. I love it. It makes short work of my lawn, and I can't wait to attach the blower and send snow over to my un friendly neighbor!!

First ride on tractor I ever purchased, and I regret not buying it sooner. I'm really impressed with the quality of this tractor. The 42 inch deck is a perfect size for my 20k sq. ft of lawn. This riding mower exceeds expectations.

5/5

I purchased the X370 2 weeks ago. In addition to the basic mower I added the mulching option with the electric gate control mounted on the dash. I have about 3 hours on the mower. I traded an X310 for this mower, so I still have power steering and hydraulic lift for the deck. The new deck design is impressive in that it stays cleaner on the outside, there is very little build up of grass material on the inside despite mowing in some wet conditions. Tried the mulching attachment on some leaves leftover from last fall, performs as advertised.

Excellent product

5/5

I have owned my X370 for 1 year and have 49 hours on it. I bought it to replace my 20 year old STX38 that had a worn out front end. The cut is amazing, love the power steering as I have about 20 trees and 2 buildings to mow around on 2 acres. The only downside is the 18.5 kawasaki uses twice as much fuel as the 13.5 kohler in the STX38. I look forward to using this machine whenever i can.

This will not be disappointed

5/5

I replaced my old 216 with this X370. I don't like to write a review as soon as I get an item. I like to see how it does over time. I've had my X370 for a year now. All I can say this thing is a beast. There is nothing I've thrown at it, that it has not handled. I actually cut my yard time down by a 3rd and I went from a 48 inch deck to 42 inch. It's fast, smooth and the cut is so flat my lawn looks like a fresh barber brush cut. I'm not easily impressed but I am impressed with the X370. Now, I also purchased a 44 inch snow thrower with this. I live in central NY south of Lake Ontario. We get lake effect snow and it averages over 100 inches a year. You can not believe the snow this machine can move. I have a 3 car wide driveway and I'm done in about an hour. I've moved snow drifts that were 10 inches the snow thrower. This is a great all year round machine. I would happily buy this again.

Great buy for the options it offers.

5/5

I've several Deere lawn tractors over the years so I knew what I wanted as "must haves" for when I went shopping. Having previous tractor with power steering and hydraulic deck lift I didn't want to give those up going forward. The X5xx and X7xx were fantastic but way out of my price range. I was hesitant at first...mainly because of the 18HP and 42" deck but now after using this mower and bagging with it I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. The 42" deck side discharges and bags grass(with optional bagger accessory) fantastic. With the deck leveled per owners manual it cuts our rough (former cattle pasture) yard extremely well. We have very little flat land it's all rolling hills and valleys and the deck almost never scalps our yard, nor misses a blade of grass left uncut! The vacuum of the deck is extremely strong, I let our grass grow long until it starts laying over or starts to go to seed and this deck has no trouble lifting it up and chopping it cleanly off. I've never been able to mow at the speed this X370 is capable of cutting at and still have a clean cut. The engine has plenty of power to handle the taller grass and bagging setup and doesn't seem to break a sweat doing it. The steering is effortless and turns very tight. The engine looks easy to service for oil & air filter changes. The tractor is very comfortable to ride and drive. It gets extremely dusty mowing our yard but cleans up like new again with a quick blow off from the leaf blower or a rinse from the garden hose. My next accesory before winter is the 44 snowblower which I think this tractor will handle very well. It's actually fun to mow the grass again!

Can you fall in love with a machine?

5/5

This is my first John Deere mower. All I can say is WOW. I had been waiting for my old mower to die so that I could get a John Deere. I studied all of the models and decided on the X370. Really glad that I went with the power steering. You can turn the steering wheel with one finger. When I first got it a few months ago, the grass couldn't grow fast enough for me to get out and mow the yard. I got the mulch kit which does a really nice job if the grass isn't too tall. If the grass is a little tall, I just open the lever and blow the grass out the side. The first oil change was a breeze too. Everything is positioned so that you can get to the filter etc. The only reason I am giving it a 4 star on ease of use is that the hydraulic lift is a little annoying if you have to frequently change the depth of the cut and lift the deck up and down. But that is my problem not the mower's. I hope to have this mower for many many years. Love it.

Pros

  • turns on a dime

Cons

  • wish the deck went a bit higher.
