Every owner of a John Deere riding lawn and garden product is a potential customer for a high-quality, affordable utility cart. Utility carts can be used to haul a variety of materials, including firewood, lawn debris, dirt, sand, mulch, garden tools, plants, and bushes.

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

Welded box Welded box

Welded box construction provides maximum reliability:

  • Requires less setup time than the bolted construction.
  • Box sides and bottom are one piece and have rounded corners and no hardware for easy cleaning.
Wheels and tires

Wheels are mounted on a solid, one-piece axle for durability.

Iron/Oilite® wheel bearings with grease fittings provide lubrication for long life.

Pneumatic tires offer:

  • Good flotation
  • Minimal rolling resistance
  • Shock absorption

Turf-tread tires are used on the 13 Utility Cart.

Deluxe tailgate Deluxe tailgate

Deluxe tailgate is hinged for easy emptying and can also be quickly removed without the use of tools.

Easy hookup and tilt-dump latch
Spring-pin tractor hitch Spring-pin tractor hitch
Tilt-dump latch Tilt-dump latch

A large-diameter hitch pin provides plenty of strength:

  • Fast, easy attachment to the tractor hitch
  • Spring pin to ensure the pin stays in place

The easy-to-use latch allows tilting the bed for easier unloading:

  • Steep dump angle makes emptying easier.

  • Firewood
  • Lawn debris
  • Sand
  • Dirt
  • Mulch
  • Garden tools
  • Plants and bushes

Utility carts are designed, painted, and decaled to be compatible with other John Deere equipment.

Key features of the 17P Utility Cart:

  • Cart has premium molded polypropylene box construction.
  • Polypropylene body will not rust or dent, staying new looking longer.
  • 0.75- x 2-in. (19- x 51-mm) stake pockets are molded in to make addition of side extensions easy.
  • Two vertical 0.75-in. (19-mm) molded channels on each side allow for easy use of dividers to separate the box into two or three compartments.
  • Ribs in box bottom add strength and prevent a shovel from hitting bolts when emptying the cart.
  • Sloped tailgate design makes emptying the box easier; no tailgate to loosen or remove.
  • Styling is compatible with other John Deere equipment.
  • 16x6.5 pneumatic tires with turf tread give good flotation, shock absorption, and minimal rolling resistance.
  • Wheels are mounted on a solid one-piece axle.
  • Wheels turn on iron/Oilite® bushings with grease fitting for long life.
  • Spring-loaded dump latch is easy to use.

A convenient foot pedal dump release kit, LP48017, which now comes standard on all 10P and 17P carts is available to retrofit existing poly carts. This kit allows the operator to use both hands to lift the cart bed for more natural and efficient unloading.

Front Blade

46-in. (117-cm) Front Blade 46-in. (117-cm) Front Blade

The front blade is excellent for pushing light snow or other loose material.

The blade is constructed for good performance and long life:

  • Blade surface is curved to roll rather than push material, which requires less power and increased blade capacity.
  • Bolt-on, replaceable cutting edge takes most of the wear to greatly extend the useful life of the blade.

For operator convenience, the blade comes with standard equipment for controlling it from the tractor seat:

  • Blade can be angled left, right, or used in the straight-ahead position.
Full working range
Full working range Full working range

The 46-in. (117-cm) blade can be operated up to 6.5 in. (16.5 cm) above ground level.

Floating action is designed into the lift linkage, so the blade is free to follow the contour of the ground.

The lift-linkage design makes raising the blade easy.

Controlled from tractor seat

  • Has corrosion preventers
  • For lawn and garden equipment and other gasoline-powered vehicles
  • Ensures quick starts in all two- and four-cycle engines
  • Use in gasoline, gasoline-oil mixture, and ethanol blends
  • Use to treat gas cans at each fill-up or use at every fill-up of vehicle
  • Keeps fuel fresh for 12 months
  • Contains a fuel injector and carburetor cleaner
  • 1 oz (29.6 mL) treats 2 gal. (7.6 L)

Always use fuel stabilizer in gasoline.

Fuel sitting in gas tanks or gas containers for more than 30 days begins to degrade. Also, blended fuels and water in gasoline can form acids that corrode fuel-system components. Protect the investment - use John Deere fuel stabilizer with corrosion preventers and prevent hard starting, surging, lack of power, poor idle, flooding, and will not run or stay running conditions caused by poor-quality fuel. Ask a local John Deere dealer or visit John Deere Parts.

Helpful tips:

  • Add fuel stabilizer every time fuel is purchased.
  • Deere gasoline-powered equipment is recommended to run on a minimum of 87 octane gasoline.
  • John Deere Fuel-Protect for gasoline is safe to use in all types of gasoline, including gasoline/oil mixtures and blended fuels containing up to 10 percent ethanol.
  • Use plastic fuel containers to store fuel; ask a local John Deere dealer.
  • For best results, use a spill-proof gas can that automatically seals the gas can vent.
  • Store fuel in a cool, dry, dark place in a sealed fuel can.
  • Fill tank to the top every time the machine is put away.
    • Make sure tank is drained if stored for the winter or treated if left for prolonged periods of time.

Please refer to the operator’s manual for additional recommendations and warranty information.

Fuel related issues are not considered a warrantable condition as there is no defect in the materials or workmanship of the machine.

For more information on fuel, visit John Deere Groundscare.

Tire Chains

TerraGrip Traction Belt TerraGrip Traction Belt

Protect your driving surface. TerraGrip Traction Belts offer enhanced traction on snow, mud, dirt, wet asphalt, and wet concrete surfaces. They will not scratch or chip concrete, asphalt, or aggregate drives or walkways. The proven reliability of the traditional steel chain attachment system is used and combined with the performance and durability of reinforced rubber slats. The rubber slats wrap around the tire so only rubber touches the driving surface. The result is aggressive traction without the risk of surface damage, that can happen with traditional chains.

Features:
  • Rubber slats surround the tire and will not damage driveways or sidewalks.
  • No steel touches the driving surface.
  • No-tools installation utilizes a traditional steel chain attachment system.
  • Traction is improved on all surfaces, especially loose material (snow, dirt, mud, sand, etc.).
  • TerraGrip Traction Belts are approved for John Deere 100, 200, X300, X500 M-T, and X700 Series Tractors.

Additional information for 4-wheel-steer tractor models:

  • X700 Series – requires wheel spacer sold separately
  • X500 Series – requires wheel stop adjustment
  • X300 Series – no additional requirements

Nothing Runs Like A Deere

5/5

I bought my S - 100 at the beginning of the cutting season and after using it all summer, I have come to the conclusion that this mower is a great product and buy for the yard that I have. It performed excellent and when I did the initial service it was so easy that anyone could have done it. I was concerned over the negative reviews I read before my purchase reporting a problem with the belt jumping off, but so far, mine has been perfect. I would recommend this mower to anyone looking a smaller lawn tractor that performs at top notch quality

So far so good

5/5

I upgraded from a 30yr old SX90 and at first wasn't thrilled with a lot of the reviews around the belt braking but I found a video that stated to engage the belt slowly and I have the choke about half way when engaging and have yet to have an issue. I've had it for 1 season so far.

worst mistake i ever made

1/5

i have had this mower for 3 months, it has a total of 4 hours on it. 1 month ago it stopped working, (bad pully) what was replaced, went to mow yesterday , the battery is dead, charged the battery all day it started up went to mow after 30 minutes the blades stopped spinning and it stalled (broken belt and battery dead again) so now I get the fun adventure of fighting with Home Depot to return the lemon they sold me.

Good Mower Bad Deck

3/5

The quality above the deck is good. For years John Deere has been putting the same or similar cheap deck on many of their lower priced mowers. Because of an unusually good deal I own my second Deere mower. The first has been flawless mechanically but only a few years in the deck required welding at the rear mounts, front roller brackets, deck spindle holes, a crack in the front center. I know several owners of John Deere residential mowers who've had to have deck repairs or just bought something else. Replacement decks are roughly 1/3 the cost of a new mower. I emailed Deere years ago to suggest they reinforce the deck and the reply was THEY were satisfied the product was competitive. Deere makes good products but this isn't one of them. Compare this to a Snapper SPX that I don't sell or own stock in. Roughly the same price but comes with a sturdy, fabricated deck.

Bad Transmission

1/5

I bought a S100 Series at Lowe's and it worked fine the 1st time I used it but the 2nd time the transmission wouldn't go into gear so I took it back to Lowe's and got another S100 and the transmission stopped again on this one the 2nd time I used it. The parking brake wouldn't work either. I ended up getting a different brand of mower

Bought it from Lowe’s. It worked fine for few months and suddenly the belt broke. I was told by the dealer that the belt is not covered under warranty. So, I replaced the belt by myself. I noticed that the belt can come off very easily. I think that is how the belt broke. I am afraid that the belt will break again.

I've had the S100 for over a year now. It cuts my lawn perfectly. I also have some rental property and have had to mow the lawns there when the tenants moved and left it long. It did just fine. I've even pulled a small trailer full of mud and sand. No problems. Highly recommended.

Absolutely…. Boring!!!!

5/5

If you are looking for a machine that needs maintenance and wrenching on, go somewhere else. After a year with this, my lawn mower tools are covered in cob webs. I can’t remember the last machine I had that didn’t breakdown on a regular basis. I’m extremely impressed with the quality of design as well as manufacturing. I used to get ignition “anxiety” as I call it… when I was nervous the day the grass needed cut knowing the Craftsman had a 30% fail rate on any given day. The Deere… it’s started like brand new every single start!!! Like I said, this baby is boring. It does the job . Quiet, powerful, tight turning, easy to turn, great sitting position. Another difference between my current JD and my now sold Craftsman is somehow the JD doesn’t get me dirty and full of grass clippings! I’m clean after cutting the lawn! It’s magic lol! Worth every hard earned penny to buy a Great American machine like a John Deere. My lawn is about a quarter acre… I’m not a professional and this is just for my yard

Belt Issue!!

2/5

I purchased the S100 on April 24th. After only 2.5 hours on it the belt snapped. I wasn’t aware of the belt issues but if I had I probably wouldn’t have purchased the mower. John Deere please address this issue! These belts are expensive and it’s very inconvenient to change belts every couple of hours, especially for a half acre flat lot!

Guess what? My belt slips off/snaps too!

2/5

I bought this to replace my faithful ORANGE machine after many years of service. I regret switching to John Deere. After 2.36 hours of use, the belt snapped. It sounded like it was going to fall apart as soon as it was delivered and started up, so I wasn't too surprised something wasn't right with it. They need to LISTEN to the customers' belt issue, find a fix and inform everyone. They give everyone the same template response to call. Well, I tried and while the agent was nice, she admitted she had no idea what to advise.

New Purchase With Mower Deck Belt Concerns

3/5

I am not new to John Deere. Had a 125 for 16 years no real issues, loved it. Bought a 2022 S100 mid April. Checked the oil, kicked the tires, added gas and fired it up. Roared to life immediately. Slowly engaged the blades and this is when I became concerned. The deck shook as if the blades were not balanced. Removed the blades and checked blade balance. They were good. Put the blades back on and made sure the spindles were not loose. Everything checked out ok. I had my wife come out and engage the blades slowly while I observed the belt and pulleys. The mower deck belt was violently vibrating as to make the mower deck visually vibrate. This should not be happening. Disengaged the pto and put the mower away. Went online and began reading horror stories of new John Deere 100 series with basically same story as mine. However, my belt has not broken, as of yet. Some posts indicated that after the second or third belt break, they bought a replacement belt that was a little bit smaller. The problem seemed to go away. I did contact John Deere Enterprise Contact Center by phone and asked if this was a known problem. The nice lady on the other end of the phone looked and could not find anything. Bottom line, I am going buy a smaller belt, so that when the original belt fails, I can fix it quickly. I did say I loved my John Deere 125, I will not recommend until the issue is addressed.

Off to a rough start.

3/5

Mower was delivered by Home Depot on time, but with a bad battery. And I don’t mean just a dead battery, I mean a battery that tested at below 1 volt. How did this get past QC?Had to take it out myself and exchange it for a good battery at the store. Once the battery issue was sorted out, the mower started and ran fine. Used it for about an hour mulching leaves with the mulching cover installed, and it worked fine. Overall, mower seems well designed with good access to the maintenance areas. One complaint though...the “gas gauge”. Seriously? It makes me laugh. JD would have done better if they’d included a measuring stick instead of that “gauge”. In fact, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll cut down a wooden yard stick to measure the fuel level, because that fuel gauge reads all over the place. Will do another review mid summer once I’ve run the mower for a while.

Happy with the S100

5/5

This is my first riding mower and I needed one to mow 13 acres mostly in pasture. The cows and horses can only eat so much grass. I am a woman in my mid 50s and not an engineer or mechanic so really needed something that was going to be user friendly and simple. Lowes delivered the S100 a week after I purchased it online. Oil level was good and Lowes told me there would be a little bit of gas in it. They started it up before they put it on the truck just to make sure there were no issues. This is a 2022 model. I think there were more problems with the 2021 S100. It was as easy to drive as one of those little cars at Disneyland. My lawn looks great. Some of the grass was pretty tall and the S100 did great. I am going to buy the cart to tow behind it and possibly the snow blade attachment. People said I was going to need a giant tractor for my farm but I think I might just borrow my neighbors giant tractor and use the s100 for the majority of tasks on my little hobby farm. Good things can definitely come in little packages

The mower itself has been great as other reviews have mentioned about the belt however is entirely true, but as long as you pay mind to you might not end up having a problem with that. Besides that point, it has absolutely no issues. Use it along my laser-Z

Got brand new. Arrived dead. Charged it and worked fine for a short time. Had the same issue as everyone else. Belt kept falling off and eventually broke. Didn't last a season of mowing 1 acre weekly. JD dealership said warranty may cover it but I would have to transport it to them in order to find out. Best to just replace it myself.

Deck Height Adjustment Off

3/5

I surprised to see no comments about adjusting the deck height; maybe noone is doing it. The mower came well out of adjustment, and when I followed the instructions in the manual I found that the rear adjusting hanger bolts do not have enough threads to lower the deck to 2" as required. It doesn't affect the mowing because you can adjust the deck at the taller height, but the height adjustment on the mower will be wrong (it will read shorter than your actual cut). This is a dumb oversight. I checked others at the store and they were the same. Also, the grass chute must have been designed by Rube Goldberg - it sticks out a mile and has 3 separate hard parts in addition to 2 springs. Ugh. I have not used it enough to tell if I will have the seemingly typical belt problems, yet.

Should have heeded warnings from reviews

1/5

Had great experiences with Husqvarna but decided to give John Deere a try since dad likes his zero turn so much. I went with the S100, belt broke on second mowing (1.1 hrs) and now I need to try out the warranty. It doesn't appear to be a simple belt replacement, looks like part of the deck needs to be taken apart. Wonder if I can take it back.

No deal-breaking issues so far. Runs as expected.

4/5

This is my first John Deere...first riding mower for that matter. Mower runs great, cranks up every time on the first turn of the key well into my second year of ownership after sitting dormant in the garage all winter. It is sized perfectly for my half acre lawn. First time I used it, one cotter pin on the deck broke causing half the deck to drop and majorly scalp my grass. I just went ahead and replaced all the cotter pins on the deck after that. I have the bagger attachment, which works great on dry days when the grass is not too high, but tends to clog with the slightest amount of moisture on the ground. I personally have not had any trouble with the belt, but noticed that it gives a nice little chirp once I engage the blades. For this reason, I recommend throttling down before engaging the cutter deck. I have a couple steep areas in my yard, and the mower cruises right up those hills better than I expected. All in all, my standards aren't super high. but it makes a decent cut, has been easy to maintain so far, and hasn't broken down. I also appreciate the hitch on the back for hooking up attachments like gorilla carts, spreaders, and aerators. You could probably do better with other brands of residential lawn equipment, but you can also definitely do a lot worse. After all, it's still a DEERE.

Shortest ownership in John Deere history?

1/5

Bought today from a Home Depot. While registering for the warranty online I stumbled on the S100 reviews. I was stunned and bummed. Before I even finished the online registration I went outside to fire it up. Engaging the lower deck was extremely abrupt with a very rough out of balance shaking with loud metallic banging noise. I videoed the belt engaging and the other reviews are correct. The belt looks way too loose even when fully engaged which is why it fails so early and so often. The belts always stretches some and it think there’s no room for that to happen. A shorter belt may be the solution but I wasn’t going to trust that fix on a brand new 2K mower. So bummed.

Was so Happy...at First

2/5

I turned the big 6-0 this year, and hubby asked me what I wanted. Did I want diamond earrings? A trip to the Caribbean? No. I told him I wanted a lawn tractor. he said that was about the sexiest thing I ever said! I was happy if I got a good, used one, but he insisted it would be a brand new John Deere. I was thrilled when he loaded it out of his truck. I had never owned a brand new mower before - and this one had a cup holder! Unfortunately, 4 months later and we had to change the belt. We went online to watch a tutorial and ended up finding these reviews. My heart sunk. Did we get a stinker? This was a big purchase - are we going to regret it now?

Works Great, belt too big for the tractor.

4/5

The belt is too big for the mower's blade system. After two days of purchase, I noticed the belt was coming off the track. I had to manually put it back several times. This cause the pulley to cut the belt as it only comes off while riding, not mowing. Before purchasing a new JD belt, I research for a new belt outside of John Deere and I found the same belt but an inch shorter off brand. This fixed the issue. I would suggest recalling the belt for one that is an inch shorter. I've 19 hours on this off-brand belt and is working like new.

Bought New at Home Depot 3 months ago. Has less than 9 hours on it and has been through 2 belts. The belt comes off the PTO pully and binds causing the belt to be cut. Bad design. Belt Issues...like everyone else!

1/5

This was my first time purchasing a riding lawnmowwer. I did my research and took advice from several people that own them. I was told John Deere would be my best bet. I'm INCREDIBLY disappointed. The belt pops off within 20 minutes of engaging the blade EVERYTIME I cut my grass. I have 7 hours on it and it's been in the John Deere service center 3 times already. Belts acually popped twice already as well. I expected a better product and wish John Deere woul take care of it's customers by fixing THEIR issues.

Belt issues

1/5

As with many other people who have purchased this mower, I too had the belt snap within 3 hours of use. This would have covered under warranty, but not the cost of a pick up or drop off to get it repaired. So I bought a new belt and replaced it myself. I can tell that the belt is still prone to jumping off the pulleys and there seems to be no fix for this. It is a poor design by John Deere.

Unmet Expectations

1/5

After many years of using Husqvarna equipment, I decided to buy a John Deere S-100. At first, I was very pleased with the machine, then it started throwing the drive belt every time the PTO was disengaged. Searching for a way to tension the belt was futile. The machine has less than 15 hours on it, and now, when it threw the belt, it broke the belt. Although this machine shows great promise, it is not as well engineered as I would have expected. I contacted John Deere who informed me to call my nearest John Deere service center. I did, but I was placed on hold for about fifteen minutes. The I was told to leave a call back number, and I did. After four days, they are yet to call. So I have a substandard machine with virtually nonexistent service. I am sorry I switched from the orange machine to the green and yellow one.
